I've just bought a silver Wavedrum and I just want to ascertain if the following is normal behaviour or whether I have a faulty Wavedrum..

I'm referring to the algorythms that use scale select..

eg No21 bamboo.

They are supposed to play different notes in a set scale according to velocity.

I find that even with the Velocity range parameter at 000 I have to hit very hard in order to get any change in the scale. Most of the strikes just play at the default pitch. (Velocity at 100 produces little change..)

I notice that the blurb for the Wavedrum Global says:

'Increased pickup precision provides improved dynamic range for low and high pitches, as well as enhanced response for soft sounds, making the instrument more sensitive.'

Which possibly indicates that Korg recognised the velocity -> pitch sensitivity needed improving..

All the same, would someone please check if this is the same on their wavedrum so I at least know that mine is not faulty..

I think you are confusing some of the parameters in Edit 2 Mode.

What are the other settings you are using?

The most important one to pay attention to (in order to achieve what I think you are looking for) is parameter # 8, Sequence Type.

"This parameter allows you to specify how changes in striking force will correspond to notes in the scale.
0: Stronger strikes will play higher notes.
1: Stronger strikes will play lower notes.
2: Striking force will have no effect on note pitch. (Notes in the scale will be played randomly.)"

Parameter # 7, Scale Select, is also important. If, for instance, that was set to "7" then you wouldn't hear any change in pitch whatsoever. All of these parameters interact with each other in many different ways.

To address your other concerns:
The updates to the Global Edition will not affect the issues you are describing here. But again, if you can provide all the other settings you are using, it will be easier to diagnose the problem.

Here are the settings I'm using:

Alg 21 bamboo

Tune: 50

1. Fine Tune 0
2. Accent Level 0
3. Velocity range 0
4. 2nd Pitch 0
5. Pressure Pitch 24
6. Pressure range 24
7. Scale Select 1
8. Sequence Type 0

It seems that even with the velocity range set to it it's most sensitive (o), I have to hit quite hard to get some change in pitch - this is mainly what I wanted to check, just to make sure this is normal behaviour.

Also, sometimes the velocity -> Pitch change seems a bit random. eg when I'm playing at a low velocity it will keep playing a high note, rather than the low note it should be playing at.

I've gone through the calibration routines, btw..

I found out , that its not a tuning by velocity.

The sound kind of locks to a certain pitch
until the strike is higher than a certain value ,
then it changes pitch again and stays there .

It seems a bit random, even at a non-random setting (ie not 2).
Random is Ok though.. I at least now know my WD is performing as it should..
