I have 2 units of microKEY37 plugged simultaneously in 2 different USB connectors on back of my PC... i use one microKEY37 to play sampler and another microKEY37 to play synth... at the same time...

Ableton 8 is GOLDEN it can see both microKEY37 units and it can clearly distinguish them and list them as 2 separate devices listed:

[1] microKEY
[2] microKEY (Port 2)

i can assign each unit to different instrument or track and play both keyoards simultaneously while routing them into 2 separate virtual instruments...

unfortunatelly not all DAWs are this easy to setup...

my biggest issue is PRO TOOLS 10... this DAW only see 1 unit and ignores the other... it only detects

[x] microKEY

in PRO TOOLS 10 only 1 unit works the other one is unresponsive... while at the same time i can quit PRO TOOLS 10 and start ABLETON 8 and they BOTH WORK IN ABLETON 8 !!! so they are connected all right...

does anyone know how to make these 2 units both register and show up in PRO TOOLS 10 ? i guess it might be a system level thing... maybe i have to tell windows to distinguish these 2 units more in Device Manager and than other programs will see them as 2 separate units...

currently i can see them in Windows Device Manager as 2 devices:

- microKEY
- microKEY-37

for some DAWs they are 2 devices... other DAWs see them as 1 (only 1 works the other is unresponsive)

iam on Windows 7 x64 SP 1 and iam using generic microsoft usb drivers not the korg usb midi driver... it broke my setup so i had to revert to generic microsoft usb driver

So the answer to see 2 identical units of microKEY37 in Pro Tools 10 DAW was preciesly to use the KORG USB MIDI DRIVER instead of the MICROSOFT LEGACY USB DRIVER... when using KORG USB MIDI DRIVER i can now see 2 unique units in Pro Tools 10... SUCESS !!!

but wait didnt i say in first post:

well the problem is more complicated... KORG USB MIDI DRIVER works ok, but Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 x64 still has that 10 MIDI devices limit built in... so what was happening all the time was that i could install the KORG USB MIDI DRIVER succesfully but no DAW or SEQUENCER can see those devices using KORG USB MIDI DRIVER because they are installed on positions higher than 1-10 in Windows MIDI devices hierarchy... YES WINDOWS 7 x64 Sevice Pack 1 STILL HAS 10 MIDI DEVICE LIMIT...

whats crazy is that if you use MICROSOFT LEGACY USB DRIVER your devices show up in most DAW and SEQUENCERS even when they are installed on higher positions than 1-10 (for example 17 in my case) but once you switch to KORG USB MIDI DRIVER windows wont show your devices unless they are on positions 1-10 - so MICROSOFT breaks its own limits if you use their legacy driver but is strict about 3rd party drivers to conform to 10 MIDI devices limit...

to cut the story short...

on Windows 7 x64 SP 1 you must use the supplied "Uninstall KORG USB-MIDI Device" utility to free up some positions within the first 10 (1-10) entires of the Windows MIDI device list... if you want to use KORG USB MIDI DRIVER your microKEY must be listed on position 1-10 in the Windows MIDI devices list or it wont show up in any DAW or SEQUENCER running on your Windows 7 x64 SP1
