Baisc questions for a new M50 owner

Hi, I just purchased a used M50 in very good condition and have a few basic (maybe more like stupid) questions.

First one is regarding the sustain pedal; Do I have to use a Korg pedal or is there a way to configure the kbd to accept a Yamaho pedal that I have left-over from my former Roland XP-80? When I do this, the sustain is on / works in reverse. Is there a way to fix this or do I need another pedal?

Next...I also have a Roland EV5 and tried that for the expression on the M50 but didn't do anything. Can this be adapted to the M50?

Next...Is there a way to have the unit remember the last combi / program number when you shut it down so it will return to those same spots when you start it up again or does it always default to first banks of presets?

Lastly, can anyone recommend a good video training series for the M50? There's a set on eBay for $39...

Pedal polarity is selected under Global Menu / Controls (you may have to press a page button to see it) -- you'll have a choice of Korg and everyone else... so yeah, your yamaha pedal is useable.

There should be a "remember last setting" mode, that's also somewhere in Global menus -- it's handy for coming back to the same place if your power situation on stage is sub-par. Loss of power brings you back to the same patch when it comes up again. Handy.

Issue with EV5 may be one of cable (TRS [stereo] vs Phone [mono] - not sure which is correct or needed for the M50) which would be a physical issue, or Global assignment of the pedal which is a programming thing where you need to decide what you want the pedal to do. I'm not sure if that has a global default value or if the pedal is already pre-programed as an assignable controller in some programs.

Make sure it's not plugged into the switch or sustain jacks.

No opinion on videos. Owned M1/01W/trinity+TR/titons(4!) and never needed 'em.

Plenty of free videos on YouTube from KorgUSA. Rich Formidoni demonstrates the features of the M3 and M50 (which share a good deal of functionality and workflow):

On their YouTube channel, click the "videos" tab and then prioritize the list to show "oldest to newest". There's a whole group of videos from 2009-2010 that focus on the M3 & M50.

+1 on the youtube videos. Also search in youtube for "In The Studio With Korg M50". Despite the name, these videos by Rich Formidoni are useful whether or not you use the M50 in a studio.
