Question regarding attached/in-built speakers

Recently discussing the true value of in-built or attached speakers (e.g. PAas and PA600/PA900)

The question that came up was potential internal keyboard damage due to long-term "speaker vibration".
Anyone had any issues relating to this? Speaker systems are so much nicer today with better bass frequencies etc...

Just curious.

From a component reliability standpoint, yes, systems subjected to constant vibration will have more failures than identical systems that do not. It's a statistical probability. Your particular system may never be affected. If you're concerned, wear headphones. ;-)

Hi Rick

Yes, that was my feeling too. Personally I would not go for in-built/attached speakers on any keyboard (have enjoyed that luxury since the Korg i3)

Tyros speaker system was better in this regard as its sub-woofer was separate (nice speakers - shame about the keyboard  )

Cheers

Yes, I liked the Tryos speakers. Then I got a pair of Behringer B3031A's ;-)

Edit: Fix typo B3030A SB B3031A

Co-incidence... I got a pair of Behringer B115D's (they probably shake the keyboard even though they are not attached  )

Yep!

FYI: I did a typo above, mine are B3031A's not B3030A's

I bought the pa1x specifically because it was the only pro arranger keyboard that had built in speakers . For portability and immediacy you just can't best built in speakers . Thankfully the speaker system within the pa1x is simply excellent and after 8 years of very heavy use it still sounds crisp and loud .

I like the built in speakers of the PA800 a lot!
Very detailed, loud and crisp and with a good "oomp". ;-)
For home-use they are really excellent.
Much, much better than those of the Yam's PSR S910 keyboard that I had for a while.

Dear friends,

before the beautiful Pa3x, I had for 6 years Pa1x.

Pa1x speakers were just fantastic, as near field monitors, and you could play for hours with a big pleasure.
I had and have a very expensive and sophisticated speaker system also (Mac mixer + 6 powered Fostex cabinets, e.g. 2 tweeters cabinets, 2 mid cabinets, 2subwoofers cabinets). But I must frankly say that the build in speakers Pa1x were of a top quality.

Never had any vibration problem, even boosting volume at top level.

I must also say that the built in speakers are an additional convenience, specially when you want to play outside home without needing high volume audio.

However, I prefer a keyboard without built in speakers, for two reasons. Main being the weight, for transportation. And second one being the looking of the keyboard, more elegant and professional without speakers.

Ciao :D

That's why I liked the idea of Pa3x detachable speaker. It's enough for home playing, and headphones are good only if you do not want to share your music with others at home.

Pete, You made me think about those vibrations. Before, I haven't even realise such a problem might exists.

Dear Michal,

you are right. I purchased PAAS and it works very nice. Little more than Pa1x on board speakers, PaAs has very nice quality. Not only as far as audio is regarded, but also under the construction point of view: so easy to plug them, without wires!

For Pa3x owners, it's a little jewel to have, IMHO.

Little expensive, but a perfect blend with the flagship.

In any case, when you use it, don't forget to set the Equalization to the PAAS preset!

Ciao :D

I read with great interest the comparison of various speakers so here is my 3 cents worth. I just don't think you will get a better sound than a PA3 running through a pair of Bose L1 Model II's with 4 B1 subwoofers. What a great sound. :D
