My partner is a concert pianist who creates her own music, and we just recently purchased for her a Kronos 88, it fits in our home better than a mini grand. She is an amazing artist but unfortunately neither one of us have any aptitude in the technological side of mixing, recording, or mastering. I read through forum answers often and get lost in all the jumble of words that are way over my head. I am willing to spend time learning how to use the Kronos and how to use a DAW but can't seem to find any tutorial or manual basic enough to start. All the Kronos tutorials on youtube and at kronoshaven start out over my head even. I have managed to figure out how to record the songs she creates in the SEQ mode and save them to the Kronos, one long day I even figured out how to transfer a song onto my laptop using garageband and put it on our iTunes. I love the idea of learning everything I can about the Kronos and an adequate DAW (we are looking at Logic Pro and Pro Tools) but am having a hard time finding a starting point, any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Other than reading the Kronos manual and watching online tutorials (Qui's and Sharp's for instance) I don't know what to tell you. Hit us with a specific thing you're trying to do and we can probably help.

Yeah, most of basics are told in video tutos. I also ingurgited (not sur for the verb, sorry) the huge manual ^^

I think you should get comfortable with the way the file system works and the different modes.

Program, combi and sequencer are considered modes.

Start with Program mode, and simply cruise thru all the sounds and categories.

sounds like you don't know much about the "technical end" of music- period. I don't think you'll find one tutorial that will teach you what you need to know. The Kronos is a complete workstation and you could probably do everything you needed to do on it alone. learn all you can about the Kronos- that could fast track to getting done what you want to do. If you start throwing DAWs in the mix it is going to get confusing. DAWs have their own learning curve.If you are recording just piano and maybe some voice, the Kronos can definitely get the job done. And with a USB DVD drive you can even burn your own audio disks.

i dont really have anything in the form of help to really offer here so ill just say you shouldve started with a daw(logic,ableton) and interface (rme,apogee)first,gotten mildly proficient with it and add to your setup anything you feel you need. i think theres some advice you can use in there somewhere

If you decide to go with a DAW (Logic) got to macprovideos for great tutorials.

If you are wanting just to learn how to use the Kronos, I would suggest that you start with the Korg Tutorial Videos for the Kronos. Then, I would recommend you go through our resident guru Qui's video tutorials. Next, you might try the Sudsonics DVD. If you make it through all those, that should get you to a level of understanding and comfort that will have you able to ask specific questions here and get answers.

If you want to understand recording procedures, or how to set up a studio, or how to record in Pro Tools or Logic there are tutorials and YouTube videos out there that can help.

If you need a primer course that will help you understand the basics of MIDI and recording, I would suggest spending some time at www.tweakheadz.com and absorb all you can.

I've done a fair bit of pro audio work and if I'm correct, it's the nomenclature that confuses you mostly.
I myself would not start with a computer and DAW yet. For you I think that would simply be like putting gasoline on the fire. Your Kronos can do everything that you need for quite a while.
I also get a bit of a feeling that neither of your are very comfortable with computers. Yer gonna have to get past that, I'm afraid! Your Kronos is a computer.
