Anyone know of any patterns for the Volca Bass being posted up anywhere?

The unhelpful answer is, "Just invent them." The classical answer (and by classical, I mean "stretching back to ancient Greece") is "Learn to invent by imitating."

There are already some good archives of 303 patterns, which can be readily adapted to the Volca Bass:

Keep in mind, when you're entering the patterns here, that the Volca sequencers can program notes and slides, but not accents.

i do want to program the "famous tb303 patterns" into my volca bass but could not figure out so far, how to program
- rests (1/16 rest, 1/8 rest etc.)
- ties (1/8 note, 1/4 note etc.)

this is with standard step sequencers no problem but i did not find it..

according to korg-support it is not possible but i can not believe this!

I assume you are entering notes using step mode.

Entering notes is straightforward: you press a note key and that note is entered in the sequence. When you do this, the sequencer automatically advances to the next step. To enter a rest, press the REC key. When you are in step mode, the REC key advances the sequencer but does not enter a note. This creates a one-step rest.

Enter ties as slides. To edit slides, press FUNC together with STEP MODE.

These are not really ties but slurs (or, in step sequencer language, slides). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tie_(music) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slur_(music)

Maybe I misunderstood him, but I believe when chris-korg said ties he really meant slurs. On the Volcas, you enter these in slide edit mode.

slurs seems as ununderstable aus ties to me

By slide edit mode you mean the so called active-step?

In hardware sequencers in general terms Ties mean to extend a note or beat to the next step so a note becomes twice as long, stretched so to speak, in drum terms it would normally mean the same but is not usual as drum beats tend to be a single step depending on the step quantisation, 1/8th, 1/4, 1/16th etc.

When you edit a drum beat and tie it to the next step its usually because that beat has recurring echo, reverb etc. and you dont want to cut that short

No, the Volca has both slide edit and active step modes.

hi,... i figured out somehow to make the famous Blade seqeunce in my Korg Volca Bass,.. but how can i program the UP and DOWN function as mentioned in the Famous 303 Patterns?

up/down refers to the octaves...

yeah and this is where it getsabitdifficult when you want to do
a second pass adding the octaves i can never figure out which
step i'm on, so i mess it up every time. doing the octaves at the
same time as the note entry isn't the way i'd choose.

when you go into 'step rec'...no note light is on(? i forget right now)
i think it should be: just switch the octave and re-enter the note
shown lit up, done. somehow i can't do this reliably, always end up
with wrong step..
