KRS-06 Keith Emerson presets hit the nail

Today I had a closer look at the Keith Emerson (signature KE) sounds at the beginning of KRS-06.

This is some really stunning B3 stuff! Generations of keyboarders loved these signature sounds, from the more light stuff (Little Arabella etc.) to the heavy sound of a clicky roaring overdriven B3 (Tarkus, Barbarian etc.).

- First of all, the new CX3 engine is really able to deliver, and to deliver anything from the light to the heavy stuff.
- Second, the Keith Emerson signature sounds simply hit the nail. Just listen to some of the orginals and play some notes along on the Kronos B3 (it's no longer a Korg CX3, but rather a Korg B3 to me now): the degree of authentity is simply stunning!
And if you are aware how much fine tuned hardware (B3 with a certain Leslie on high, neessarily loud overdrive level) was reqired then, and you get most of it on about any loudness level through any better PA or active monitors in high quality, this really feels a bit like a miracle.

And the best part is, that most of Keith Emersons sounds aren't just great in the original songs, but rather invite using them in new contexts with a high degree of pure fun and joy.

Thanks Korg, thanks Keith Emerson: great stuff to use!

Glad you're liking them... Try the Drum Track, each one is ready to play the tune... For "Eruption" theres a user drum pattern that needs to be loaded. And for some of the separate upper and lower versions I changed the drum track part.

Jack Hotop and I worked really hard to finish dialing these sounds from Keith, a labor of love for both of us!

Hey Jerry, I should have been suspicious that you (and as I hear, Jack Hotop as well) had their hands and minds in this fine result.

My wife was already laughing today when I came into her room once more, repeating "you just have to listen!", "compare this, compare that". There's so much in these sounds, which reminds me that a B3 is not just a thing with a basic standard sound, but a house full of all kinds of different cats and tigers!

In my bands I never could afford a B3, or would'nt even have been able to transport it all the time. But I lived in a house with someone's C3 & Leslie, in a big living room, for quite a while, and I will never forget the magic of this thing, besides listening to great B3 stuff in many styles from Jazz to Rock and R&B/Funk over the years. The house had no near neighbors, and you could fire up the Leslie at any level you wished ;-)

I'm really, really happy with the new engine! It just calls for using it, because you hardly want to miss all the fun!

P.S. I think even Brian Auger - who doesn't use a Leslie and relies on a rich Vibrato/Chorus tone with some overdrive - would enjoy this new engine.

I'm sure he would. I worked on signature presets with Brian back on the CX3 keyboard. He would surely enjoy the better overdrive and the CV, since they are so exposed in his sound. Another one of my heroes/influences. My biggest thrill was getting him and Keith out to dinner together a few years ago. What cool stories!!

I love organs and my dilemma for a couple years was, Kronos or C2D/NS2. In the end I gave in to the many options of Kronos and now I am overjoyed at the organs this update is the best thing to have happened for me.

I need to go see if I have the drum tracks! I hope they loaded when I loaded the separate banks of cx3 sounds! I didn't load the entire v2 preload.

You'll have every one except Eruption.

After trying the new bank last night, I must also congratulate Korg, Jack and Jerry in particular, for a job truly well done. Some of the presets are magnificent. In fact, short of possessing state of the art external effects, I don't think the sound can be improved, only altered to suit personal tastes.

Thanks guys!

Really great work and big upgrade for the Kronos - I sure appreciate the effort that went into it.

I just want to add my 2 cents worth as well.. These new organ sounds are amazing!!! I've been a Hammond player for many years, and I'm friends with David Jacques who contributed..

I think that thanks must go to Jerry for all of his work to create these sounds.. these are not the rinky dinky crappy sounds that came with the original CX3 (and the Kronos CX3 engine).. These are GREAT Hammond sounds..!

I have a few favourites and the KR Eruption Split is one of them.. wow that sounds great!! I can't stop playing with it. I also had to go back and completely re-learn Sweet Child in Time after playing with "TM Child Organ" holy crap that sounds good.. Some of the KORG sounds are pretty fantastic too.. so I'm assuming that's Jerry's programming.. very cool!!

Question for Jerry, I didn't know that you could actually combine two instances of the CX3 engine in one program.. I assumed that you had to do this in a combination.. Can you tell me how to go about doing this...? Thanks.

You could always do that with all of the EXi engines. Check out page 171 of the latest parameter guide, there's a picture of the 4-1:Program Basic tab showing how you select EXi 1 and EXi 2. They can both be CX-3 if you want two organs.

I keep forgetting about this feature myself.

jerrythek, Thanks for the reply!

Can any one tell me where to upload the user drum patterns from? Was it in the update but I missed it or do I just pick a pattern I like and load it from the existing drum sounds?

Thanks all!
