Which music keys work with Gadget?

Post by jmouse »

Hi there
Just purchased Gadget for iPad (I have iPad 2,IOS 7 with camera connect adapter)
It sounds fantastic and with a few updates could be an absolute stormer.
However I can't seem to get either my BassStation 2 or Akai Synthstation mini keys to work with Gadget.
A message saying "this device requires too much power" comes up even when both keys are mains powered or in the case of the SynthStation brand new batteries.(Yes I tried plugging in the keys before starting the app)
Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

All Iknow is I get that same message with my Novation Mininova . My Korg M50 and my Samson Carbon 49 both work on it wih no problems. The Carbon 49 even works from ipad power alone.

Hi csteen
Thanks for your reply.
Yep, looks like I'll have to either wait for an update or try some other options like the Korg or Novation Micro Keys.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

Do you have access to a cheap midi keyboard or controller?
Or, if you're willing to drop some extra $, get a Korg Nanokeys (Akai also has a similar model). Gadget's portability got me thinking of getting a small midi controller to use with it. Personally, if you're giving this use, I think it makes sense to invest in something equally useful.

There's also midi over usb. Do you own anything with that?

The CME Xkey is a nice portable 25 key controller for the iPad. I'm using one with an iPad 4 and it works great.

The Samson Carbon 49 powers itself right from your ipad is very light and portable, had very nice synth action and can be purchased for under 90 dollars US. Hard to beat it with anything in that price range that I could find especially with a 49 key option. They also make a 61 key for a very nice price as well.

Korg MicroKEY 25 works great connected directly by a $4 lightning to USB adapter I bought.

Nanokey works but it is class compliant as are the others that work. Mininova can only draw power from a pc/mac, ipad does not supply enough power from the lightning port/usb adapter.
Korg Grandstage 73, Korg Keystage 61, Ipad Pro M2 with Korg iMS-20, Gadget, Module Pro, Polysix apps. Mac Mini M1 with Logic Pro X and Korg classic keys.
