Volca keys peak/resonance issue

Hi
I've just bought a Volca keys.... sounded great in the shop, but when I got one home and had a play, I noticed the resonance/peak only kicks in when thek knob is turned about 80%, and then it sounds distorted. Is it just me?? I have this habit of buying faulty equipment, so always fear the worst.
