I just purchased my new SV-1 88 on Thursday. I can't tell you how happy I am to have this board. I think I must have seen every youTube video and read every review (good and bad) before finally pulling the trigger. WOW! I am really impressed with the quality of sounds. The full strings on [Other-1] are absolutely beautiful just like they are. It's something to hear that voice through my BOSE headphones. Incredible. The other voices need a little tweak here and there as well as some Touch and RX. I love the old-school feel and approach of this board. It's a quality build as well and very hip looking.
I walked right by this board in Guitar Center two years ago and thought nothing of it. Never even played it. I was busy trying to find a Yamaha Motif XS. I never got the XS but did buy a new MOXF8 a couple of months ago. One rehearsal with it and I took it back. It just didn't cut through the live mix at rehearsal. Even with turning the volume up the voices were a little too "noisy". My Fantom X8 works great and cuts through like a champ. I wanted (I thought at the time) the Yamaha soundset. I was really disappointed with the MOXF8. I just can't imagine a Motif XF not cutting it, especially since it's an industry standard and flagship for Yamaha....as well as being used by Michael McDonald, Chicago, Stevie Wonder, etc. Maybe I just got a defective board. I'm glad things happened the way it did because it led me to the SV-1. I sat down to play it at GC last week after playing a Hammond SK-1 (great B3 sound but average on everything else). The sales associate asked if I had played the SV-1 yet. He said "man this has some killer sounds". I sat down and after seeing that it was running mono (never understood why some stores continue to do that) I asked for headphones. I was shocked at how I enjoyed playing this board. The action is great for me, and the voices are really nice. I wish the organ sounded like the Hammond though. I wonder why KORG didn't at least put the CX3 organ on it. Anywho....I got this baby home and have been tweaking the voices and saving my favorites. I wish there were at least 10 buttons for favorites! I recorded a demo of some of the voices but the .mP3 is too large to attach here.
It is VINTAGE...just like me (I'm 57 and still gigging). I haven't used it in a live mix yet so that will be the test. I think it will do well.
Awesome keyboard!
