Kronos as Audio interface - recording and monitoring problem
Hello, I'm using Kronos as an audio interface over USB with asio4all. I'm routing USB1 and USB2 to L/R and I'm monitoring everything using headphones connected to Kronos' headphone output. It records audio very fine in Cubase, but when I want to record another audio track while listening, it records the previous tracks too or even the metronom click itself.
I can avoid this routing the USB1 and USB2 to Kronos' Output 1 and 2 and using a mixer to mix L&R outputs and 1&2 outputs to my headphone. But my mixer is dead now.
Is there a way to accomplish this basic recording studio without using a mixer? I want it to be just as simple as Laptop-USB cable-Kronos-Headphones.

Well today I found a solution but not a perfect one. Instead of routing USB1&2 to Output 1&2, I keep them off. I connect my headphone to laptop instead of Kronos. Inside VST Connections menu I choose my laptop's outputs instead of Kronos'. This way I can monitor and record at the same time without overdubbing. But only problem is I'm monitoring over software instead of direct monitoring, there is a chance of latency.
Still looking for a solution where I plug my headphones to Kronos and use direct monitoring.

Hi,
Today I tested a solution for this, unfortunately only for MAC until now.
I used the links below as reference
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3956
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcR13q1APAs
To create an "aggregate audio device" on MAC OS 10.9... in my case adding 6 inputs and 6 outputs channels (2 for Kronos, 2 for GAIA and 2 for internal device).
So on Logic (or other DAW) you could (Just for example)
- Rout the click (metronome) track to the Phone Out (internal device);
- Rout a Strings track to GAIA,
- Record a new audio track of Kronos directly "free from interference"

Aggregate devices are really great and flexible. That is how I have my studio setup to get Kronos to Logic.rs.felicio wrote:Hi,

Cool but I use PC. Plus I can't see how it's related to my problem. I don't have another audio interface and Asio4All already let's me use both Kronos and laptop's outputs at the sametime as I mentioned in my last post. The problem is I want to plug the headphone to kronos not laptop to get direct monitoring.

Forgive the side track to this.....
A question for rs.felicio and ed_f...or any other imac users, please.
Which iMacs do you both use ?
The reason I ask is because my imac/Kronos combination will not work properly for audio usb recording.
It can sometimes be ok for a short while, but usually it'll produce high levels of static type hiss near to screeching.
The repair centre can't reproduce this effect during their testing……probably using an older iMac.
I bought mine last year,so it's one of the later models and there are some reports of audio problems.
However,it works fine using Alesis M1Active 520 usb monitors, recording flawless audio.
Although it's at 16 bit…..I don't think that makes much difference to the actual recording process itself, though.
Having other problems with the iMac as well…..two usb3 ports have gone down and also the Bluetooth module has stopped working.
So,it could be totally a computer fault.
I have an older iMac,which has recently been repaired,I replaced the psu and seems to be working in general, but haven't carried out proper audio recording yet.
By pure coincidence….it actually went down during an audio recording session with the Kronos some time ago and am a little hesitant at the moment, but intend to do so,soon.
The aggregate device set up did work well in the past and do hope I can return to that method again, eventually.
Sorry for the diversion off topic.
Thanks.

Re: Kronos as Audio interface - recording and monitoring pro
Warning: newbie here! Didn't test the procedure below.
As far as I understand the main audio outputs L/R, headphones, SPDIF output and USB output all carry the same audio signal. To get different audio you must route it to the analog INDIVIDUAL 1-4 outputs.
To get minimum latency and no digital/analog/digital conversion it seems you need to route already recorded tracks to the INDIVIDUAL outputs (along with metronome) and monitor from there. Keep the track you are recording routed to L/R so they are sent to your computer via USB.

@pedro5 I use a macpro not an iMac

Yes..of course that's what I should do,to be fair.
It's just because the topic came up here, about imac and aggregate devices etc, that I mentioned my own problem.
Hope I didn't cause any offence or upset to you nor anyone else.(Apparently it's not correct etiquette on forums etc).
However, the particular topic has been posted before, but didn't get far,it seems that there aren't many newer imac owners out there having similar difficulties.
Probably will return to the subject at a later time.....with my own topic/post.....
I do hope you find a solution to your own problems, sorry I can't help......no longer use a pc.
Best Wishes.
