Just got my microarranger. (my Korg I3's motherboard is dead - what a pity - so I bought the microarranger). Downloaded the manual and the quick start. What a difference when compared to the I3 manuals!
I've played a little - it worked, but I could not figure out how to kill one of the acc parts, to stay just with the drums. Pressing A VOLUMe did not help.
Then I tried to record a song. When I pressed RECORD, nothing happened, it did not show the two options (realtime recording and chord/acc step mode as stated in the manual).
Where are they? Does it mean that my microarranger is deffective?
(I know what is realtime, but I couldn't even understand what is the chord/acc step mode. I believe I know what it means but...).
So I had already two problems.
Then I presumed that the realtime mode was on and I pressed the A VOLUME/VALUE page - it worked.
I thought it was good enough. But when I pressed the start/stop key nothing happened.
I'm disappointed. I started playing around with my I3 without even reading the manual, (which I read later, of course).
Can a good soul please help me with such basic steps? Many thanks.

Song recording works as described
I think you also tried to play your MA without reading usermanual, not even about basic-operations or interface-structure. But this is the good soul to help you with basic steps whereas that way to help you is the same you find inside your usermanual.jacobb wrote:.. my Korg I3's motherboard is dead - what a pity - so I bought the microarranger. 1st problem - Mute Styletracks:
Depending on operationmode, the button TRACK SELECT switches between the various trackviews (realtime-/style-/songtracks).
Corresponding tracknames are printed over each button. Pressing a button-pair in one row mutes the corresponding track, pressing again both buttons unmutes these tracks.
2nd problem - RecordSong:
RealtimeRecording and Chord/Acc-step mode as stated in the manual you only see while you are in BackingSequenceMode, to record backing-sequences.
If you can not see the second mode (Chord/Acc-Step) you are in SongOperatingMode, where you can record songs - but does not mean MA is deffective.
If you press RECORD in SongRecordMode your are in mainpage of this mode, where you can prepare your record (more details see "SongRecordPage" on page 92 of user manual)
kind regards

Hi, Siebenhirter
What a shame. The whole thing was explained at the manual; I made the mistake of thinking the the quick start guide would give me hints about all modes, even if it just picks one of the modes as an example.
What a shame. I promise to be more careful next time.
And I thank you very much for your kind way to point me in the right direction.

A Way to play only drums...
Merely hit the "style play" button, select a style, them without touch a key, press the red start/stop button in the middle f the keyboard.
The drum pattern for that style (and selected variation) will then start playing.
You can operate it just as a drum machine by hitting the VARIATION and FILL buttons.
The Microarranger can be a pain to figure out, and I could think of man simple things Korg could do to make it easier t work with. (Like let ususe a computer keyboard to enter file names, and put a time date stamp on files as they are created.)
It can be tedious to work with but it has enabled me to create dozens of great tracks since I bought it in October 2012.
IF they would just release a software program for PC that would allow us edit the chords and insert delete measure on the PC, then put the SD card back in the KORG MA and "Compile" the new data based on the new chords I would be in heaven.
I'm tempted to write such a program myself, but I'm getting too old for such excrement... (I used to be a programmer, but quit 20 years ago).

microarranger - song recording does not work
Dear MA Friends
I'm used to computers, and I had an I3 as I said before. Yes, I have read the MA manual, but I admit that I can't understand many procedures which should be easy. Maybe my problem was trying to use the MA offline instead of just linking it to a computer by using a music software.
1. First I've recorded a song I wrote by using a style. When I took the SD card to my computer, and saw the whole staff, everything was wrote inside the G clef. Why hasn't my left hand be written to the F clef? I couldn't figure it out.
2. So I've decided to split the work. I've tried to record just the melody, with the right hand without style (the manual says it is possible). I could not find the path. I can play the melody, but not recording it. Every time I go to backing sequence, it uses the style I had been in.
3. Then I gave up, and decided again to use style but this time by cleaning all the korg instruments, except drums. I did it, played my song and heard it; precisely as I wished. However, it had the problem of stopping the recording in the middle of the music; it never recorded all the measures I had played. In addition, if, while playing, I hit two notes at the same time by accident or will, the MA acc would start playing even if they were supposed to stay mute.
4. So I didn't care and took the SD with a partial melody to my computer. To my surprise the printed staff had a whole bunch of background notes, this time even if they had been muted when I played and heard it at the MA. How come? My melody was mixed inside the F clef with a bunch of notes which I had not played. The G clef had also strange additional notes.
Well, I've read and used complex manuals all my life. Clearly I need an idiot's guide to the MA or, as I hope, the help of you guys, kind enough to be patient with my lack of competence.
Thanks in advance
