Korg Krome Multi Midi Channel Record into DAW

Hello,

I'm having difficulty finding a way to make the following simple setup that would allow me to use my Korg Krome in a multi MIDI channel capacity.
I don't know if I should use Program, Sequencer and Combi mode. After researching it seems like Sequence or Combi mode is where I should concentrate my efforts.

I would like to do the following
Korg Krome

Keyboard - MIDI channel 1
Bass - MIDI channel 2
Drums - MIDI channel 10

DAW (Pro Tools or Logic Pro X)
Create three tracks that correspond to the MIDI channels specified in above in the Krome setup

This should be simple, however, embarrassed to say, I can't figure this out. Any advice or solution would be most appreciated.

Short answer:

Use sequencer mode.

Hit Page, go to Track Parameter mode, and set your tracks to EXT (external) mode so that they are sending MIDI signals straight to your DAW.

Compose up a storm.

Thank you so much for your response.

I was just working with Sequencer mode before I saw your reply and I was able to setup sounds in Krome and different MIDI channels and have those MIDI channels correspond to External MIDI tracks in Logic Pro X. I don't remember setting my tracks to EXT mode. I'll check that parameter the next time I work with my Krome and Logic Pro X.

Oh, I may have misunderstood.

If you're using the Krome as a synth, while Logic provides the stream of MIDI commands, all you really need to do is set up the instruments on the corresponding channels in Sequencer mode. The Krome should receive the commands and act upon them.

If you're using MIDI commands from the Krome, and then sending them to Logic for some kind of soft synth behaviour, then the normal configuration should send the MIDI to Logic just fine, but would also trigger sounds from the Krome. I assumed that you didn't want that to happen, in which case EXT should not trigger the Krome's synthesis function, but just send the MIDI commands.

I admit that I do not use my Krome with a DAW, so I may be hazy on the finer points, but I do use mine to drive external hardware synths, such as a brace of Volcas, as well as its own sounds, so I'm aware of the usefulness of the EXT setting.

Yes, my needs are very basic. Use the Sequencer mode to configure the keyboard, bass, brass, drums, etc., sounds along with their individual MIDI channels and set up corresponding tracks in either of my two DAWs, Pro Tool or Logic Pro X.

Funny, I raised a Korg help desk ticket requesting information on how to accomplish what I posted in this forum, and the response I got back was to use Combi mode. While, Combi mode worked, I got a lot of extra effects on Krome patches that I didn't want. Sequencer mode is much cleaner and just works better.

Thank you again for confirming what I thought to be true-using Sequencer mode.

The arps might not be very useful, since Logic is doing its thing for you, but don't ignore the effects.

The Krome's effects are no substitute for a full rack of dedicated hardware, of course, but within the limitations of the platform the quality is good and the parameters are very flexible.

Of course, this might be less of an issue if you're generating stems one at a time, but that's not the impression I get of what you're doing.
