Unable to Install 3.0.2 - how to proceed?

Post by 3fingers »

I have been unable to install the 3.0.2 operating system. I have updated in the past with no problems - current system version is 2.1.1. The keyboard has been working without any problems.

I have taken the following steps

- Downloaded and extracted the 3.0.2 zip file
- Copied files to root directory of usb drive. I have done this to 2 different usb drives - one of which I used successfully on the last install.

When I try to do the install the Kronos searches for the install files for about 10 seconds and then indicates Update Error.

If I go to disk mode the usb shows up under drive select.

Any ideas on what to try next??

Somebody else had the same problem too. He said he formatted the USB in Kronos and then copied the files to it. It worked for him.

Clear your usb stick

Copy only the 9 files from the unzipped folder (don't copy the Manuals folder).

Hope that helps.

take a fresh USB drive

plug into your Kronos

go to Disk/utility

make SURE your USB thumb drive is selected in the drop down list

select Utility ( upper right corner)

press format ( again make sure your USB is selected)

you will have some format options. Quick format for Fat 32 should get it done quickly

Now copy your 3.0.2 to your freshly formatted USB thumb drive. Follow install steps, etc

I also formatted the usb stick in the Kronos, then copied the files to the root directory. The install was flawless and fast. I would like to thank Korg for this great update.

All Kronos users should keep a small USB key that has been formated on the Kronos, is known to work and which can be used to transfer files, install updates, etc.

So once you have found such a key, save it for exclusive use with the Kronos.

I keep my 8 Gb plugged at the back so I don't lose it. Why 8 Gb? I find that it's perfect to transfer large libraries that would not fit on 4 Gb, whilst it is very cheap to buy a 8 Gb key these days.

Finally, I got myself a 64 Gb key where I keep the installation folders of EXs banks, in case I have to reinstall quickly.

Re USB storage devices: the only problem that I've seen with these is when they have been formatted with multiple partitions. Some USB flash sticks, for instance, come from the factory with a small second partition which is hidden on Windows, and this can then cause problems on the KRONOS. A normal format on Windows will only affect the visible partition, and so that won't help. I'm sure that there are Windows tools which can change the partitioning; on the Mac you can use Disk Utility, and a low-level format on the KRONOS should do the same.

While this is good advice - the only time I ever had an issue I had formatted the stick on the Kronos. When it didn't work I formatted on my mac using the settings Dan states in this thread and it worked perfectly.

I think one piece of advice is, don't freak out and try some options. If you have other systems that can format your usb stick give it a go and test it.

I can´t update, no chance.
gave it something like 2H now probably.

The same USB Stick was used to update to 2.1.2 seven weeks ago, ..without formatting.
now, after first unsuccesful trys, i formatted the stick in the Kronos .
quick format, Fat 32 ....nothing/ FAT 16 ...nothing
....slow format.......nothing

copied allways the sayed 9 files to the stick,
nothing
i re-downloaded the Kronos update file which takes again loooong and tryed again, ...still the fresh stick, ......nothing.
error, not able to find the file.
i tryed now also with a second USB stick which i can´t format right now, its not mine. there where some folders on it, loaded the Kronos files to the Root direction,
........nothing

i have a macbook here, i found the disktool, i did NOT found a format button there to format my USB Stick in the macbook again.

action failed
........so much to my love for computers which gets to be day by day a greater antipathy ......

* the "mnt" folder has here no files inside btw.

Files:
bc
DisplayUpdaterMessage
install.info
Kronos_Update_3_0_2.csum
Kronos_Update_3_0_2.tar.gz
md5sum
mnt ( a Folder/ nothing inside, at least nothing shown)
posttar.sh
pretar.sh
( plus the Manual folder)
