Q and A thread for EMX 2

I was looking for a thread to just ask basic questions but couldn't find one. So maybe this can be a place for people to ask random questions.
Here is mine.
Is each part really just paraphonic? In poly 1 and poly 2, no matter what I do the amp envelope will re trigger on all notes whenever a new note is played. As if there is only one envelope. I was expecting to be able to have each of the 4 notes in a part play out it's own envelope. But it doesn't.
Am I doing something wrong?

That is what paraphonic means, different voices sharing the same envelope. Polyphonic means they each have their own voice architecture (usually).

So I must have missed where the specs and advertisements say it's paraphonic and not polyphonic?

I see it now:
*2: Independent parameters for each voice have been simplified; four voices share the parameters of one conventional voice. - See more at:

No worries.
Ok, I have one. Why is it when realtime recording just playing the trigger pads in keyboard mode, I seem to end up with a ton of controller data cluttering up sequence view? I'm assuming it's aftertouch or something, but I don't see a way to get rid of it?

Can someone test the work around to let an IFX tail continue in to the next pattern if the same pad has the same sound/IFX in the next pattern but no notes?
(hope that makes sense)

Just tried this, and unfortunately it doesn't work. Looks like IFX always get cut off when you switch to a new pattern.

^ Thanks for trying. Seems like the Korg guy in
this webinar was wrong then. Shame. Was hoping this work around would work.

Ditto. Oh well, at least the MFX remain during pattern changes.

I see there is a way to copy a part sound to another part within the same pattern, is there a way to copy a part sound to another pattern? How about the part sequence?
And I realize you can copy the entire pattern to another, then strip other parts down, etc. but any other way?
Basically if I spend some time programming a pretty cool sound, I need reprogram it if I want it again later in a different pattern?

At the moment, yes you would need to recreate it again, there's no way to copy a part to a different pattern.

Weird. I wonder why the Korg guy
mentions this work around when it clearly does not work.
I have contacted Korg about this and some other issues people report on this forum. I've asked if they're aware of the issues and are planning quick firmware updates or not.
Seems Korg rushed this device out way too fast. I don't buy the lack of CPU/RAM argument. Nowadays these chips cost next to nothing. Also I've tested FX tails on my age old RS7000 and they work perfectly when changing patterns.

Please keep us posted if you hear anything back from Korg on these issues.

I emailed Korg, got a reply back from James Sajeva who did some of the voicing. He said he'd "pass it on to development" regarding the pattern copying oversight and that it was a good point. He also said that user feedback was a factor in future updates. So the more we request stuff from them, the more likely you are to receive it in an update.
So, get emailing Korg support!
He also said the sampler will be demo'd at NAMM and available in March....

^ Will do! I hope they answer quickly.
It's one think that they're aware of it, it's more important that they are willing and able to fix it. The guy in the webinar remains vague about actual fixes but does confirm Korg is aware of say the 8 bar wish.
On the Gearslutz forums people worry that Korg will fix a few often complained about issues and then move on to the next device. I have no experience with Korg so I don't know if this is true or not.
Maybe it's a an idea to make a "petition" with a list of stuff we wanna see addressed in future updates and sign it all, rather than emailing Korg individually. From what I gather here we all agree pretty much on what needs to be fixed/added.
Proper editing, 8 bars, shift-knobs for extra parameters and/or other access to more modulation/options for voices, etc etc. Korg might listen to a public appeal with a bunch of people signing it. I'm sure they are aware of the rule that one complaining customer represent a lot of silent unhappy customers.
