Volca Sample - motion record in step mode?

According the the manual for the volca sample, it should be possible to enter motion recording in step mode:
In addition, by holding down the step buttons while using knobs compatible with motion recording, the values recorded with the step for that part can be edited and new motion data can be recorded.
The instant one of the 16 step keys is pressed, it toggles the on/off mode and no knob movements made are stored for that step.
It would be really useful to be able to enter motions in step mode, rather than trying to time knob movements in live record mode - especially for things like level/pan variances for percussion.
Am I missing something simple?

I was just thinking the same as it simply doesn't work the way that the manual implies. Right now I have to set tempo to 10 BPM and then do motion seq to "speed" parameter having Function key pressed(semitone steps) to be able to create melody or bass lines as accurately as possible. It certainly would be easier to do if it would work like the manual says. Bit like Parameter Locks in Elektron machines.

Not working here either, send it in as a bug report to Korg support.

I did contact korg yesterday asking them to clarify how motion recording in step mode works.
Like jugger, I've resorted to using very slow tempo and making changes in live record mode - far from ideal, especially for multiple parameter changes on a single step.

I've finally had a reply on this:
Unfortunately it seems that this function was not correctly implemented in the current released firmware – please accept our apologies for this. The good news is that this issue has already been fixed and we plan on making a firmware upgrade available very soon, although we cannot confirm the exact date at this stage.

Great to know it's coming! Really looking forward on creating some harmonic stuff on vSample.

Can't wait too because this feature is essential for creating melodic sample patterns.

Well I'm glad you contacted them VolcaPaul

When I decided to buy the unit I took it for granted that it would do this function like my electribe mk2. Was so disappointed when it didn't. Then I went back to the manual last night and apparently it is meant to.
By the by, has anyone installed the 1.22 firmware update and does it resolve the problem?

I just have to say, I think it is really really s**tty that they rolled this product out without even checking if it worked properly. I mean, this is one of the main functions you need to make actual music with this unit rather than just disharmonic random style sounds

Mine came pre-installed with 1.22 and the problem was still there.

Any official word from Korg about this or just some random email reply with a random time frame..??
Is Korg reading any of this ???
It would at least be 'nice' if Korg would reply about this issue on their forum..
Not expecting any new features, but at least make this thing work as described in the manual...

Korg provide the hosting, but this isn't korg's own support forum - so I wouldn't go expecting a direct answer from them here anytime soon:
Who owns / maintains the Korg Forums website
The site is owned by James Tubbritt of Irish Acts Recording Studio, known as forum user " Sharp". KORG USA kindly provide the HOST and phpBB support.
