Anyone understand Step Edit on the new electribe?

The manual is a bit.... cryptic on this area of the pattern edit menu. I can see how to step through each step, but if you've already recorded something, there's no visual feedback of what exactly you can edit.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious, this should be how we can go in and say, change a recorded note length, right?

I didn't play with it long at all, partly cause as soon as I started scrolling I noticed it wouldn't play the selected note. At that point I said screw it, I'll re-record the part.

That's what I've been doing too. Hmmm.

Go into step edit and hit the right arrow (not the Part arrow, the menu one). The first page is notes (up to 4), the second page is gate time (100% is a Tie) and the third page is velocity.

Can't believe I missed the arrow buttons, doh! Thanks, knew it was something simple I was missing.

So the Trigger Pads light up to show tied notes and/or gate length as well as the actual trigger note?

Note length can't be more than 1 step (96 divisions), so each red lit up pad is a single note, be it tied or not.

That's what I thought. I'm going to have to look into this some more, for some reason no matter how staccato I play while recording in real time, all of my trigger buttons end up red with ties making it difficult to see where the actual notes are.

Yes this is a big issue for me too... It's not only visual : each time you need to modify a note longer than 1 step, you also have to change all the associated tied notes !

I'm beginning to think that the step edit function is only of use if you actually want to program a part step by step, like a 303 or olde worlde step sequencer. For fixing parts that you've played in with the pads or xy pad, you just end up with a confusing mess. Better off trying to play it until you get it right i guess.

I recorded a snare part with the touchpad last night, nothing too busy. When i looked at the sequencer data, nearly evey pad in the four bars was lit up!! How do you edit that without getting cross?!?! :?:

Has anyone figure out how to manually stepbystep edit the motion sequence ? Like on the old emx.

I can honestly say i dont like the current workflow of de device compared to the emx1....

They could add filters for step editing. On my Yamaha gear there is a filter list in the editor. You can only show CC or notes, or whatever combination of a pretty long list.

I wonder how long the development time and testing times for the e2 were. It's lacking a lot of basic functions found on the previous models.

I'm hoping the hardware itself is not lacking in power and the long list of stuff can be added via firmware and that Korg will actually put out frequent updates.

I hope so too. But this has been a trend with software companies (and now, it seems, with hardware, too) where they release a half-assed product and then you have to wait for updates, etc. Personally, I'd rather wait another 6 months or so while they iron out the bugs and sort things than get something lacking/bug ridden.

Yeah, the mc505 had filtering too which helps a lot. I get all the step editing functions now that I've played with it a bunch more, it's just a bit slow to do in use. Much easier just re-recording at the moment.
