Can anyone tell me a simple way, (once the new sound pack is purchased) to program all of the Kronos x banks as per Kronos 2 ?

I know there are options.. ie use PCG tools or similar, but wouldn't you think Korg would allow us to download one complete factory reset PCG to re arrange the banks in Kronos & Kronos X as in kronos 2

Or am I missing something very obvious ? I probably am, I have always struggled a bit with the complications of the file system architecture in the kronos :)

Thanks

I'm afraid there is not an official Korg solution.

With PCG Tools it is already possible, with the new option (Program Reference Changer) it is possible to automatically relocate a batch of program references in combis/set lists ... I will shortly make an announcement how to use this feature.

Thank you :).. that sounds excellent... I have tried to get my head around manually moving everything around on the touch screen, but it seems such a hassle lol .. It is an amazing beast of a workstation, but at times an easier fix and some advice is very welcome. :)

You could also simply load a Kronos 2 factory PCG when it becomes available. It really depends on how many custom sounds (and especially combis) you have made. Even then, in the Kronos global menu, in the drop down utility menu, you can change all bank references in a bank of combis.

mmmm... I just presumed there must be a reason that you couldn't load up an X with a kronos 2 factory PCG. .. if we can save everything in kronos x in complete PCG, surely it must be possible to put the kronos 2 factory PCG into an X :) ???

I'm assuming that the new Kronos will have the demo sounds like the Australian Piano. So you would have to download all the demo sounds (with all that fading in and out). Personally I would not want that on my Kronos. I would however like access to some of the new signature sounds and be able to put those where I want via PCG Tools.

As long as you have the same sample sets you can load the new PCG and it will work. True, the demo banks might not work unless you loaded the demo samples too, but you would never use those except to hear what they sound like anyway.

The problem arises if you want to use the layout of the new programs (meaning according to the new V3 PCG file), but you have your combis in the 'old' PCG format.

When you load the combi (banks) only, they will reference to the wrong programs. The bank change option in the Kronos will not help, because the program banks are not only changed, but also programs within one bank are moved around (and to other program banks).

You can use PCG Tools to copy using 'similar' names which probably might help in most cases, unless you changed program names yourself. Otherwise you can use the new option (Program Reference changer), which works something like:

When you put e.g. I-A->I-B as line in the Rules text box, it will change all combis/set list slots referencing to programs in I-A to I-B.
However, you can also say as rule I-A000->I-B010 ... meaning all references to program I-A000 will be relocated to I-B010. Also I-A000..050->I-B050..0100 is possible (doing 50 references at the same time).

I will make shortly a file that maps from the V2 PCG file to the V3 PCG file and put it on my website.
