SQ-1 with Monotribe 2.1 via CV/Gate

Tested the SQ-1 with my (amazingmachines midified) Monotribe:

used a Nokia CA-75U cable with
the white plug = SQ-1 A GATE
the yellow plug = SQ-1 A CV
(no MIDI-connection!)

Actual Monotribe-firmware is 2.1. Followed the setup-instructions of the manual, used the same settings as recommended for connecting to a KingKorg.

Findings:
+ Octave-selection knobs works
+ using SQ-1s slide sounds pretty good
- NO SYNC
- SQ-1 - gate-length (Duty) is very sensible
- Attack-mode on Monotribe does not work very well (due to gate-length-
limitations)
- SQ-1-Linear-Mode does not work (it´s identical with Chromatic-Mode)

My conclusion (SQ-1 & Monotribe):
I´ll continue to use the Midi-connection, except with "slide" and "Octave" I do not see a real advantage in using CV/gate with my Monotribe.

From one of the Namm Videos ...it was said that the little bits out work like the monotribe ... now did they mean literally or figuratively IDK . If its exactly ; then a single trrs to trrs cable should allow the SQ1 to drive the monotribe's cv .... Anyway you can confirm ?

copied from Korgs site FAQ/Tips:

Q. How do I connect the SQ-1 for use with the littleBits Synth Kit?

A. To connect the SQ-1's littleBits OUT jack with the littleBits Synth Kit, you'll need the littleBits Proto module and a mini-monaural cable (*).

Thanks chris-korg. Debating if I should continue to wait for my preorder. I have midi installed on both my Monotribes, but they both share midi channel 1. Also own a Midi-Solutions breakout box that should split the channels, but never successfully programmed it to what I want.

I just want to sequence both monotribes individually, with better control of entering notes. The ribbon is fun, but too much hit and miss.

If you already have the MidiSolution ROUTER than it should be achievable.
(I hope that is what you mean with "breakout-box)

One suggestion: (if you use SQ-1s 16 step for one sequence)
you use "Keyboard"-Range and send the lower half of the keyboard to OUT1 = Monotribe1 and the upper half of the keyboard to OUT2 = Monotribe 2. (both Midi-channel 1). On the SQ-1 you set MIDI-channel 1 and create a sequence of upper and lower notes...

OR (even better): (if you use 2 x 8 step sequences)
On the SQ-1 you set the MidiChannel on 1 (which means the second row is MidiChannel 2).
You tell the ROUTER to send everything comming from MidiChannel 1 to OUT1 (with MidiChannel 1) - and everything from MidiChannel 2 to OUT2 (again with MidiChannel 1 !!).
Than you can use the full keyboard-range for both Monotribes.

The MidiSolution-software is in that case self-explaining...

Thanks, I'll give it a try when I get it. Yes, it's the Router version. I gotta give the Midi-Solutions software another try. Got frustrated trying to program it the last time. It would receive the info, but when trying it, it never worked out.

Unfortunately, the Router is shot and won't light up now. I bought it off ebay a few years back. Probably why it never programmed correctly.

Well, been messing with the SQ-1 and Monotribe and am a bit disappointed. The notes are all over the place when in CV/gate mode. It's a little fun on midi mode, but can't get low enough on the notes. Hopefully they could make an update, but not sure if it's just the Monotribe's capabilites. Oh well, I'll just stick to entering notes via active step and ribbon. Might use it with some other gear, but I have so many other portable sequencers that are more capable. I don't have any other gear with CV/Gate.

Could you pls explain what you mean? In my CV/Gate-test with my Monotribe the notes came out as expected...

Kind of hard to explain, but it's just not consistent. If I were to test the notes in step jump while ascending up, halfway from the knob, it would go back to the root key and ascend from that point again. Also, if I made a sequence I like, it jumps a key up or down from time to time.

Did you 100% follow the KORG-procedures ("What´s new in OS ver.2.1.")?
- activate CV/Gate Input
- pitch CV-calibration
