AX3000 - Can ESS be used simultaneously with other patches?

I play in a 3 piece 80's rock cover band, no keyboard player, and I'm curious if the ESS can be used to simulate keyboard parts, while I play another patch at the same time?

If not, can it be used to trigger another instrument (keyboard) via MIDI?
