ESX-1 - muting drums while sequencing live

Quick question, this may seem really simple, and apologies if this is elsewhere, I did a quick search and nothing came up.

Is it possible to stop the pads from making the drum sound while you're programming patterns?

e.g. For live use, I don't want a big crash, everytime I select a pad for programming the sequence. I should imagine there is a function... but some the ESX seems to have overlooked some 'live' features, so you never know..

Holding down shift and pressing the drum part will activate the drum part you want to step sequence.. if i remember right anyway..

if you want to select the part and add on a bunch of steps and then bring them all in a once you could mute the part, add in the steps and then un mute the part.. making the steps play as they come back around in the pattern..


if you havent figured out how to save the same pattern under different pattern slots, look it up or ask! thats how i built songs to record..

I usually sketched a beat.. then copied it to a few slots muting tracks on 1. building up (un muting) parts for 2, and adding in things on pattern 3.. then when i recorded out i just switched between the three patterns to build up and down and mute and un mute.. I MISS MY ESX!

I was considering selling my ESX as I bought an OP1, but it can't do the same kind of thing as the ESX.

Also thought the ESX2 /sampler might be good, but it seems to be getting slated...

I found that bouncing between two samplers is kind of fun.. i used an sp 404 with my esx quite a bit.
