Does Kronos use Active or Passive PFC in its power supply?

Hi,

Since the Kronos streams from the SSD whenever you play its pianos, I would think buying an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) would be crucial to the stability of using this instrument long-term to avoid brownouts, sags, etc.

Does anybody know if the Kronos uses Active or Passive PFC in its power supply?

That makes a difference on what type of UPS to use.

Thanks in advance,

Steve Cooper

I don't know the answer to your question but would you be able to figure it out with a detailed picture of the inside of the power supply?

It's also crucial to avoid the 2 minute boot time on stage if the power glithed such that it crashes the Kronos, your band mates are carrying on and you look like a lemon! :)

I wish I was smart enough to be able to look at and know what type of circuit it is, but I'm not ;) Perhaps somebody at Korg can tell us, because Active or Passive PFC (Power Factor Conversion) is important since Active REQUIRES an UPS that can deliver a pure sine wave. Older and cheaper UPS's cannot do that and they can also damage any unit that is plugged into it when it delivers backup power.

So true!!! I should have mentioned that I have the newest Kronos 2, 61 key, so I don't know if they have had different power supplies in the 3 versions of Kronos hardware...
