M3 program changes via foot controller?

Post by jasonface »

Hi everyone, new user here! Have a question I really hope someone can help me with;

I have a midi controller foot pedal (MidiBuddy) and I wish to do program changes on the M3 using the foot controller. I use a similar setup on my guitar rig and I am able to send the foot controller program changes via Midi Mapping; i.e. button #1 on the MidiBuddy will be assigned to make one guitar effect go to program #20 while simultaneously causing a second effect to go to program 70. Is there a way to effect program changes on the M3 via the foot controller, such as mapping foot controller pedal #1 to IE091 (harp) on the M3, and then foot controller pedal button #2 to IC096 (Solo String) on the M3?

Any help is MUCH appreciated!

You will have to send a Bank Select and a Program Change to the M3. The Parameter Guide has some information about this. Check out the Program Change/Bank Select topic on page 639 and the Bank Map topic on page 374. If your foot controller can send this then you're all set.

Basically I'm just trying to change sounds on the fly in a live situation using the foot pedal... is what I'm describing the best way to do this or is there a different way to accomplish quick changes live? I eventually will want to simultaneously change programs on a Roland Jupiter 80, Integra 7 and Radias. I'm assuming this can all be done at the same time via midi but I'm having a hard time figuring out.

To change programs during a live performance you could set up a bank of programs in the exact sequence that you will be using them. Assign the Foot Switch to perform a Program Change Up (Global Mode P2:Controllers, Foot Control tab). Now you can cycle through the programs in the required order.

The M3 also transmits corresponding Bank Select and Program Change messages when you hit the foot switch. If everything is MIDIed together the other synths should change to the same program slot.
