Hi Friends,
I own a Kronos 61 and this weekend, I attempted to upgrade my OS to 3.0
I was partly successful, my board says OS 3.0 installed, but I dont have any sounds because the PRELOAD .KSC file did not load. I have not been able to locate it.Do I reinstall it from my CD ROM Disc 2?
Also, I want to purchase and install the new sound pack for Kronos 2.Can anyone tell me how much memory is required for this?I have 2 GIG currently.Lastly, does installation of this new soundset build upon the samples already included in my Kronos( the KSC file) or does it replace this file entirely?

The preload.ksc file ought to have been installed with the upgrade?
Perhaps re-install the upgrade.
The RAM (memory) size is largely irrelevant as you have the max amount already. Samples are streamed from the internal SDD to RAM as required. Do not worry about the memory size.
I'm not sure about the installation replacing samples either way. Perhaps someone can add an explanation?

The V3 update is not soundware, it only adds features. V2 had a separate .pcg file with updated organ programs because of the new Rotary effect. No such file with V3. Installing V3 would not have affected your patch banks or sample preload list. The new Kronos soundpack only contains 2 banks of new Programs and accompanying samples, not a complete overwrite of the existing presets. You wouldn't want the entire Kronos 2 soundset, because the presets are totally rearranged and any sequences done previously would pull up the wrong sounds. If you only have the initial 2gb total, you might as well install the extra 1Gb, since the cost is negligible. Just make sure to get the right spec & seat it properly.

Thanks for these prompt replies!
I started afresh, downloaded the update again and reinstalled the OS today, but ran into the same situation."PRELOAD.KSC file not loaded".I muddled through various screens and even made sure I checked the box for "AUTOLOAD KSC", but to no avail. Then I tried experimenting with the program mode and found that I can load samples one at a time for each of the programs.Tedious, but obviously the samples are there somewhere. There has to be an easier way?

the new Kronos 2 does not ' need' the new sound pack.
System requirements
To install the “New KRONOS Sound Pack”, you’ll need:
• KRONOS system version 3.0.2 or later
• Approximately 9.7 GB or more space on the internal disk To load the sounds into memory, you’ll need:
• Approximately 440 MB free RAM
3 GB of RAM recommended
The original KRONOS shipped from the factory with 2 GB of memory. If you want to simultaneously use EXs17 and EXs18 sounds in addition to the preload sounds, it is necessary to have 3 GB of memory. Additional RAM should be installed by authorized Korg service centers only; for more information, see “Installing additional RAM” in the Sampling chapter of the Operation Guide.
The KRONOS X is shipped from the factory with 3 GB of memory. It is not necessary to add more memory.
