you mean how to plug your ipad in to the kronos and make it play back (like via midi?)
a camera connection kit is what id use:
edit: ipad air or ipad 2/3 ? as ipad air has the different connector.

I use a camera connection kit and use animo and nave with the kronos, sadly I have to borrow the iPad from my wife or kids.

indeed, you need the camera connection kit (30 pins for old model, or lightning for the new models). Then you need to modify some settings on the kronos to make it work.
in the tutorial below skip to 08:30 to see how to connect and how to do the settings:

I love the Alesis I/O Dock (I for iPads 1-3 (dock connector), II for newer iPads (lightning and dock connectors). It has both DIN-Midi port and USB midi (so you can communicate both ways and play sounds on the iPad using the Kronos or use the iPad in the the style of a Haaken Continuum Finger Board to play sounds on the Kronos), it has balanced TRS outpouts, XLR in (you could plug in a microphone to use vocoder apps) and sits comfortably (and at a nice angle, too) on my Kronos X88. However, for this solution you need another two channels on the FOH.

You can do all this with the camera kit and a USB cable too, arguably with better sound quality.

No doubt.
I should have mentioned that I personally prefer the Dock because it is a solid iPad holder, the connection is rather firm (and not as shaky as with the cck) and it charges the iPad.

Charging is nice! I have my iPad in a K&M mic stand type holder which attaches directly to my Apex keyboard stand mic boom. For the dock I would have to find a place to put it.
Does the new dock also handle SysEx? That was a major point against the old one.
