Replace the keys -- big job?

Post by korgsv1owner »

Hello, Im new here. Very glad to see that such a specialist forum exists and was hoping to get a little advice. Apologies if this has been discussed already.

I recently purchased a second hand SV1, very happy with it except three of the white keys are damaged. They still play (barely) but the action and spring back is soft. How big a job would it be to replace the keys -- could I do it myself with a little knowledge and advice? Also where is the best place to buy new SV1 keys if I was to try and replace them myself.

Thank you!

Look around for the service manual to get an idea of the amount of work:

Replacement keys are available on the web, HERE:

parts (spare keys):

gluing the broken keys with sheared pivots (the big glue page, and review too):

Bu before you start thinking about disassembly, you'd better *SHAKE* your SV-1 first:

"this thread may or may not help... worked for me with a couple keys that would not move…"

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=64561

"Amazingly a fix for this is to hold the keyboard with the keys facing towards the floor and give it a shake. Something to do with contacts in the Rh3 bed losing there position when you move it around. I now store my Sv1 in its case with the keys on the back spine of the case when transporting and never had dead keys since.
I know my answer sounds a little crazy but I read this somewhere and it worked for me so give it a go, mind your back though."

I read in another post that said actually drop it, each end separate, from 6 inches above the floor.
SV-1 73.
I sell and upgrade 10-string lyre harps.
Guild F65CE acoustic/electric, Yerubilee 10-string lyre. Stradivarius Bach model 37.
Former gear: Fender Rhodes MKII suitcase, Roland Juno 6.
