KP3 Help - Won't turn on
Hello!
I have a Kaoss Pad 3 which was working perfectly fine until Monday. The touch pad stopped working so I opened it up and saw that the ribbon cable was loose. I put it back in place, everything was working again...for like a day then bam! Now it won't even turn on. Took it to a friend who works with electronics for a second opinion and he is as baffled as I am, we can't figure out what the problem is. I've been looking for threads that hopefully have someone with the same problem but no luck. I have no idea what it might be. Any tips?
We checked the power supply, checked the pin connectors on the ribbon cables, checked everything that seems obvious but nothing seemed to be defective.
I apologize if my English is a bit rusty, not my first language.
Thanks in advance!

Download the Service Manual and with a Multivoltmeter check all voltages/power.
Enter the KP3 in Test Mode etc, all troubleshooting in manual:

I think I found the problem...pic in link below:

Am I screwed or is this fixable? The ribbon cable is getting power but the connector seems to not be working... :/
I hope someone can help, I miss my dear old KP3[/url]

The black bar/latch is open, It need to flap BACKward to lock and secure the FFC cable to be make contacts.
Just closed the black bar/latch to the BACK like this:

My bad, I should've explained that I opened it to test it. It was down holding the cable securely when I opened the KP3 and I put it back in its place when I was done, still no power. I should mention that during my "testing" a little spark went off and it turned on, I'm an amateur so I freaked out and didn't know what to do, but it turned off again a bit later.

OK, then you better leave it to an electronics repairman.
You must trace back, what you had done from the beginning.
Something broke/loose contacts when you had it dis/assembled from the beginning?
Did you disassembled the whole unit/prints in the beginning? Because to reach the touchpad connector you only need to open the back cover with 4 screws.
So you dont have to touch any other components to do damage it?
---
If it sparked and turned on, means something loose or became defective from power surge/strike/spike/short circuit when you touching around?
---
You can try swap/clean the FFC Cable contacts/direction, because mine the blue end was in the top connector.
---
You got to measure ALL the voltages points if they are there and OK, -could be POWER SW switch is instable, without powercable plugged in, puch the Power Switch many times IN/OUT to clean the internal contacts or defect.
--
Check ALL voltages steps from powerplug to left, if they are there and around the same values:
DC 12V= around +13.00V...+13.80V
+10VA= +10V
+5VD= +5VA= +5V
+3.3VD= +3.3V
+1.26VD= +1.26 V(oltage)
---
If ALL voltage are OK, then problem is difficult means the deeper layer Processors are defect, ICs are difficult and expensive to replace yourself, send for KORG Service RepAIr.
If some voltage is missing then problem is easier as the step before SOME Regulators/components are defect.
---
