So I just got home from a gig actually a jam I was in the host band for, plus I played with most of the jammers.

I have never in my 40 years of gigging received so many compliments on my sounds, as I did tonight, and have over the last couple months upon returning to gigging after a decade or so away.

I am mostly using the Kross piano, full BX3 (which I have tweeked a bit) one of the wurly sounds, and a little accordian, cello, and flute for these gigs.

Additionally, thanks to learning how to use the stereo limiter, triggered from a pedal, I can do things I used to need 3 or 4 keyboards for, with only one or two.

I still wish it had a better quality action, and I don't like the portamento on synth sounds, but over all, I absolutely love my Kross!!!!! I also love how portable it is.


I just thought I would share.

Funny, that's one of the things that attracted me to it. For one it isn't noisy like the Casios and Yamahas I've tried, and it's not as "bouncey" as they are, which I don't care for at all.

Not "a better quality action" but simply "a not so bad action"... quality is a wrong word with this plastic basic keybed !
The Kross 61 keybed has a terrible problem: it is useless to press the last 1/3 (back of the keys) of white or black keys... this is definitely not the right action for piano playing.

yeah, it takes only a short while to get used to these spring-less keys. i love the kross action now. i think this design is also one of the reasons wny this keyboard is so light to carry around.

I am ok with the action, but I have to admit, in my studio the Kross sits on top of my m1 and that above my sp250.
I use the kross for all sounds and the m1 and piano as midi controllers.

If I play something on the m1 keybed, everything is a bazillion times better than playing the same thing on the Kross.

It really depends on what you are playing too. For most of the gigging I am doing fairly typical classic rock type stuff. Nothing too over the top technical, and mostly in guitar friendly keys like E and A and G and so on.

In my studio I do a lot of Progressive rock like Wakeman and Yes. For this I mostly use the Kross keyboard for monophonic moog parts, and some mellotron parts, but for hammond stuff that is super fast and sometimes in more awkward keys, I will choose the m1 for sure.

That said I have to do Roundabout by Yes at a gig in 3 weeks and I will only have the Kross, so I will have to make it work. It should be fine though. The organ solo is in G (minor pentatonic-ish) The bigger issue will be navigating between hammond, moog, and mellotron sounds on one keyboard, but there isn't much layering so it should be ok.

All I must apologize. I thought the 61 came with the same keypad.......UGH I would not buy the 61 on a bet and have to deal w/those inferior keys! But I realize it's fine for some of you and that's great, again diff strokes and all that.

The keybed is fine. IMO it is much better than many other low cost keyboards. The Roland Juno G keyboard used to make my fingers tired over the course of the gig. It was a very light and good sounding keyboard - but it didn't have a decent EP sound. Had to sell it.

My CS6X was an awesome keyboard and I really liked it. Yes, it had delay due to a weak processor, but the killer was the keyboard membrane would go bad and double-trigger. REALLY BAD in the middle of a ballad because the double trigger would be at a high velocity!
