All of Korg's VAs, including the AL-1, only have 2 oscillators. Why? Would it kill them to add a third?
MOD-7 has 7 oscs (including PCM oscillator).

I know that. But MOD-7 isn't a VA.

AL-1 absolutely does have a sub oscillator... And remember that in a single Program, you can have two EXi engines at the same time, which doubles your oscillator count. Then, you get into Combis, and ...
