do you also use stereo cables in the Audio out ports? I know it doesn't make sense but it did solve my sync problems

Make sure you use only STEREO mini jacks. In my experience, most issues are caused by using mono jacks in the Sync and/or Audio out ports.

Another thing: if you've lost your patches, the onboard battery is probably dead or about to expire. You need to replace it or it could start to leak and damage your synth.

The MKII has Midi Sysex support so you could use that route but this requires a Midi interface and cable.

Another way is via the cassete interface. Google and download the factory patches in audio ...

There is a workaround using Midi.
Sync all your Volca's to each other and use Midi Clock for the first one in line. Press [PLAY] on your Volca's in reverse order (last one first). They will not start ...

also bear in mind that there are current limits on the USB system as a whole and per USB port. USB 3.0 ports come in low-power and high-power variants, providing 150 mA and 900 mA respectively.
