Sorry for yelling but I'm new here and on a recommendation and in an emergency I just got an X50.
The "finally" yell is for Korg adopting what I call the digital watch approach. Does anybody remember what digital watches used to cost when they first came out? To me the X50 is the Casio digital watch of synths in terms of price, functionality and construction. For the price it is utterly fantastic.
My "vintage" synth crashed on me just before a major rehearsal and I brought it in after a partial recovery. That resulted in total disaster. So, I needed something quickly, and I was cash poor (uhhh, broke!) at the moment. Of all people on the planet my guitar player recommended this and I went with it. Good recommendation.
First of all I have to say it was one of the few synths that I could learn and "tweakup" in just one day and then debut at a full rehearsal. I'm somewhere in between hobbyist and giggin' musician so I think I fit the target market pretty closely (yes if I could afford it I'd get an Oasys-and probably a Nord). Second, because of this long awaited price point revolution I've had a complete change in gear philosophy: If I can afford it, as a working musician I need to stay away from, or at least not depend on "vintage" gear. Although it most obviously needs to be handled VERY carefully it is a very nice machine and worked well enough to astound the band on it's maiden voyage.
Also I think that it is no accident that it's named somewhere in between two of the best selling "vintage" synths of all time. When it finally catches on Korg just might beat the record with this one.
I'm new so, who knows?
