Can you explain, in layman's terms, the difference between the three FX: Insert, Master and Total?
I have used Insert FX but am not sure what the other two are for and how to best use them ) _________________ I aspire to achieve 1% of Stephen Kay's music technology knowledge |

typical use of FXs :
- the insert FX (5 IFX) are used generally for distorsions, EQ, compressors...
- the master FX (2 MFX) for chorus and reverb (like mixers aux sends)
- the total FX (1 TFX) for EQ, multiband compressor...
...but you can use these FXs like you want
you can route an IFX to another or not _________________ YAMAHA W5 + TRITON proX (exb MOSS / exb PCM01 / exb PCM05 / exb SCSI / 64Mo) + M3-73 No.000187 v2.0 (exb Radias v2.0 / exb M256) + DOEPFER LMK2+

The main difference is the singnal routing I think:
IFX act pretty much the way you'd expect a guitar effect pedal to act. The input signal comes in, is processed with the selected effect and goes to the mixer board or another IFX.
The MFX are like mixer's aux send/return - the signal from the end of an IFX chain is sent to a MFX and then mixed with whatever returns from it
The TFX, as the name says is a Total effect so it always affects the output signal of the entire mix with all the IFX and MFX already applied - like some kind of mastering operation. |
