Since shortly I'm running under Ubuntu 7.10. Is it possible to make my X50 work with it via USB?

just plug it : you will probably see it as a "usb-midi device". You can see it within ALSA with the command-line "aconnect" or within QJackCtl (QT Jack Control Panel)
