I am newer than new to this band equipment (come from classical piano background). I have midi'd two Yamaha keyboards in the past with much assistance from fellow band members. I am currently trying to midi a Yamaha DX7 (master) to the X-50 (slave). My question is this, how do I do this? I have accomplished the wiring part of midiing the two keyboards and I get sound from both when I play on the keys of either the Yamaha or the X-50. But my question relates to programming sounds from the X-50 to coincide with sounds on the Yamaha. If I want setting #1 on the Yamaha to midi to say Program A001 on the X-50 and then I want the Yamaha setting #2 to midi to say Combi B089 on the X-50 how do I accomplish this? Thanks for your patience and suggestions.

You may need to update your X-50 operating system version to get the favorites function.

You may not be able to get the DX7 to automatically control the patch selected on the X-50. That depends on if the DX7 sends a Program Change command via midi when you choose one, and whether the X50 will respond to it. If you hook them both up to a laptop, you could have quick setting to send the program change midi commands to both keyboards to coordinate the programs without having to match their patch banks. This is the better approach because there are other parameters that you will probably want to adjust separately, such as volume levels and effects.
