Well a few minutes late - mother nature came through here with a light show and lots of precip. - messed up my schedule. Anyways - without further adieu - I am still on this sci-fi space thingy. Been reading too much sci-fi I guess.

Another electronica / noise piece - but with some conventional stuff just after 2 mins., so hang in there.

I don't think I am completely done with this - so need feedback on all aspects. I am not thrilled with the bass part musically. The performance is weak too, but fingers are done for now - heavy wear from playing up top.

Actually whether planned or not...it seems like you described in music to us what you spelled out in words in your first sentence.

Like an electrical storm that is chaotic, yet well formed and beautiful in it's own right, that leads to a shower...soft and smooth in form compared to the lightning that preceded it, yet the two fit perfectly together.

already i love all the sound effects and the other worldliness conveyed by them, i like that static thing, some very unexpected things poping in now and then, hey actual beautiful music after all the strangeness, very nice. I really like this musicl part, just sweet and soft and washing over me. Yet I hear the wind in the distance, nice effect. I don't know how you manage to come up with these unusual pieces yet this is so easy on the ears. Around 4:00 I was wondering if there was another layer of something you could do there, but that's just a suggestion. I am struck mostly at what creative mind is apparently behind this creation. Truly an enjoyable sonic adventure.

Excellent beginning here...and very "other worldly"!!!!

Overall...I enjoy this kind of mix very much, and listen for things that have some real Sci Fi effects...

Found the pans to work ot very well, and as on a few others recently...I notice some "voices" have a "flat" form and others have a strong depth..

The entrance of the really Neat sounding background and the guitar are just fantastic in my mind!!! and the rhythmic elements RIGHT ON!!!...how nice and QUITE emotional as well....WoW...this has real character to me....such a sound just really excites me.....a nice emotional feel in the musical section!!!

The progression is very classy rock in a guise of mystery from the sci fi additions...Great Sound!! A winner in my book!!

Jon - That was a coincidence with the whole weather thing. Glad you liked it.

George - Around 3:52 there is the pause there - hadn't thought of adding another layer, but I do have some small textural bits to add in the bass section - its a little thin.

ellll - Our styles of music are so different - its great you appreciate other styles - like my wacky sound efx. laden stuff Yea - classic chords - ya gotta love 'em.

After letting it sit for a couple of days, then re-listening; the choice of bass notes isn't as cheesy as I remember them.

Hello Art,

I enjoyed it quite a lot. The effects are nice, as is the fading in at 2:20. It all sounds a bit like Tangerine Dream until that moment, especially with the fading in. In terms of lenght however, the intro could be a little shorter IMHO.

The bass is my favourite part. Its well recorded and nicely fits the mood of the whole piece. Actually it sounds so well that it got me thinking (again) about playing a bass guitar myself. I have had this idea for a while but I'm focusing on piano lessons for now.

I think that around that spot, 3:45 or so it would be a great time to bring in a new surprise of some sort, maybe bring in some of the sounds from the beginning (maybe more static-i loved that sound). Regarding is the "intro too long." My take is this. There is a difference between a prologue and chapter 1 vs chapter 1 and chapter 2. This sounds more like chapter 1 and 2. When this much length and weight is given to a beginning section it is hopefully purposely done to give more weight to this portion than one might find in an introduction. My intros nowadays are like 2 measures and then boom there you go. This one seemed to want to tell a story before the music section came in, leaving me with a king crimson thing maybe or something more free form where you're not stuck to the usual meters and constraints of let's say pop or traditional rock music. that being said I would think carefully about how much time is spent developing this chapter of the story and how many measure it does warrant. That's what all our ears are for here. These are hard choices to make sometimes.

Cool and inventive,
I can picture a story behind this, with the first 'lost in space' section leading into the calmer and enlightening second part.
I love that second part, it sounds great, and very nice playing.

I totally love the elctronic/noise part of the song, I'm amazed byt the great usage of effects, you created some incredible scapes!

Just to be curious, why didn't you keep on with the noise section and blended up togheter with the melodic part?
I like both, but they seem to be disjointed.

Hey Art, this is probably my favorite of the pieces you done. The progression section lead by the bass is nice.

Maybe my brain is affected by the cold medicine cornucopia, but I hear untapped melodies in this wonderful grove. I kept hearing a lonely leads in my head. I hear a Miles' trumpet in the background but it could have been almost any instrument. Just something to be highlighting the melodies within the background of the progression would be nice.

The mood is just what I needed this morn. I love the bass sound. Please keep using it in your pieces. Thanks, bro

The thing is that when I started working on this tune - I wasn't planning on a bass part - it was going to be all electronic - the sci-fi interlude theme etc.

Regarding the length of the "intro" - well it actually wasn't an intro - and was never planned to be an intro. I can see how it might seem like an intro since the bass part follows - more conventional.

Hi sewa - you should pick up the bass again - says the bass player. Recording it is always a challenge. In fact, I haven't been able to record all of the sounds I use yet.

Hi George - Good comment on the chapter vs prologue! I did go back and forth during mixing - after i recorded the bass part - trying to decide if I should have an intro or a chapter as you say. The thing is that I felt there was too much difference in the Efx sections that I couldn't mix them to reduce the length without mangling it. Then I almost ditched the bass section completely.

I also like your comment on the "free form" - free from traditional metering etc ... that was the original intent of the whole piece - but I ended up with the hybrid - which I figured not everyone would dig. But thats okay - I don't like to fit in the box anyways Thank you for your thoughts!

Oh yes - @ 3:45 is a huge opportunity to develop more - I think I will revisit this later - after I purge it from my brain

Yes - there are loads of open space here - the thing is that no matter what voice I choose - it always sounds like me playing. I will revisit this - much later in time - before I post to my Soundclick spot.

My Sunday morning is getting better and better as I sit here listening to the May songs. Just as the melodic part of your song began, the sun started coming up. Very good timing!!

I love the other-worldly effect you still manage to keep after the first part.
The percussion in the second part is so well done, I will be listening many times to this.

As a "wannabe" bass player I am always humbled by the artist with great "chops" especially when it is incorporated into a piece like this. The note just before the transition at 3:42 is "way cool" Digging it!
