Im looking at buying a synth i want those fat grimey big sounds i dont want to spend more than 600 bucks, but with the right input and a good demo id go 1200... i only do hip hop and rb....i sampled both r3 and mk the mk seems to have more of a right now sound while with the r3 has more capabilities...but no programming i think mk (to me) sounds better... with korg givin a $200 rebate the r3 is the same price as mk...
is the r3 better than mk.....or should i go another route found a used ms2000 for 500.... |

.
The microKORG is its own unique animal and can run on batteries and has a good build quality. If you want to tweak, the mK is deep, and portable, and worth every penny.
The R3 is a stripped down RADIAS, which has a different sound engine than the mK. The unit has full-size keys, but it feels light and flimsy and can't run on batteries.
Both machines sound great, but the mK is just a wee bit more reliable, and fun, imho.

The R3 is an improvement over the MK in nearly every respect except for battery power. The R3 was clearly designed as the replacement for the MK, and having 8 poly instead of 4 is a huge difference. To buy the MK new at about the same price as the R3 would be crazy-stupid. The MK is worth half of the R3's value. That's not to put down the MK in any way, since it remains a great little synth - but time moves on and Korg didn't go backwards with the R3. |

well i guess ur right in most respects except right out the box mk sounds a bit bigger and the keys feel frail on the r3 but for the same price is y i was considering r3 but then again that is a rebate so i still have to pay that extra 200 at first decsision decsions |
