I'm going to hang out at the music store this weekend and check out the M50 but was curious:
I own an X50. Why would I want an M50? Does it make any sense to have both?
Thanks. |

Its got a sequencer. If you look to record your material, capture ideas and grooves, the sequencer is a wonderful tool. The other reason to get your fingers on the M50 is the ...............sounds !!!!
WOW !!!!!!!!!!
check it out

I usually do my sequencing at the computer. Are the sounds between the two different enough to warrant having both? |

If you hang out at Guitar Center today, you can get the M50 for 15% off.

The EDS goodies have been already explained
Plus... M50 has the sequencer, can store programs combis and songs in the SD card, it has a drum track in addition to the double arpeggiator (drum patterns are editable). It is another beast.
Have both? Why not? If you can afford and you need two keyboards, for example in live, I think M50 and X50 can live together without problems. And the X50 will always be a good little backup keyboard. _________________ Kurzweil PC361

Precisation: the X50 is based on a reduced version of the HI engine found in "real" Triton workstations. The EDS engine of the M50 is exactly the same of the M3, although it seems to me and to others that the M50 sound a bit more "rude" than the M3, because maybe of DAC or maybe of final analog amplification. One thing for sure: M50 has a more powerful headphones output, I can have louder volume than in the M3... (who cares?... ) _________________ Kurzweil PC361

i have bought a X50 for live gig and rehearsel since sometimes i was bored to move the heavy V-synth and now i give back the X50 and get an M50
what to say?
M50 is a little bit big and heavier but always very easy to move around, sound are much better (256MB vs 64 and different engine), more IFX, touchscreen, joystick instead of wheel (i prefer joystick), better feel on the keyboard (X50 was ugly on this side), sequencer, SD slot, you can load .PGC file from M3, same drum pattern of M3 plus dual arpeggiator, editor with Karma (anyway you have to pay for the Karma sw).
the only real missing i see from x50 to m50 is the favourite patch selection, on m50 i copied my favourite patches in the User category and browse them quickly via touchscreen, but the same mechanism of favourite patches as in x50 would be very wellcome. |

I appreciate all the replies. I did go and check out the M50. I think, for the money, it's a great buy. I really liked the 88-key action (a lot like my Yamaha P140) and many of the sounds are top-notch - although I was disappointed in the acoustic pianos. Had those matched my Yamaha I would have bought one right away and sold the P140. Still, I'm considering buying one.
I'll probably keep the X50 either way. It's so portable - sometimes I use it as the only keyoard on gigs and my back thanks me profusely. |
