I am new to the computer music scene and would like to know which DAW to get. I need something that's easy, inexpensive and doesn't push my computer too hard. I have a Sony VAIO dual core 2 GHZ, 3 GB Ram laptop.

I am having problems with the demo software I downloaded (Abelton Live 7 and Sequel 2). I am using a midi controller and when I record midi tracks in a small loop, it uses all of my cpu to run a few different midi tracks. Or when I am playing a pad and I hold down about 8 or so keys, it uses all of my cpu. It seems like my cpu has a very small polyphany. I do not have an audio interface yet, but I am afraid to put any more money into this until I figure it out. Please help, your advice will be greatly appreciated. I forgot to mention that my keyboard is plugged directly into my computer with USB. |

What are the specs of your computer and what virtual instruments are you playing back with? It takes almost no power to process MIDI data but quite a lot to produce sound from 8 separate VSTs. |
