Hello my friends,

I am desperate to find a solution on the following problem...:

I have both Trinity-Keyboard and Trinity-Rack and I am trying to copy-transfer the sounds from the keyboard to the Rack. I dumped the data from the keyboard via midi (created a syx file) to the computer. Then, I tried to send this syx-file through midi to the Rack but it is NOT working! Its displaying on the end of the procedure: "Unexpected external error..." or something like that.

What am I doing wrong? Can you please describe me the exact procedure step-by-step please?
I have to tell you, that I checked... There is no write-protection activated (or at least I thing so...). Can you also tell me that? How do i deactivate any kind of write-protection.

P.S: Software I am using: Bome's SendSX

Hi Georgnik,

The first stumbling block I can think of is that the TR-Rack has 8mb additional multisample and drumsample PCM waveforms that aren't available in the Trinity.

More specific info shown below (courtesy of John aka JKR01W):-

Quote:
Trinity Keyboard has 374 Multisamples and 258 Drum samples.

The Trinity Tr Rack Module has 414 Multisamples and 458 Drum Samples.
There are 39 more Multisample and 200 more Drum samples in the Trinity Rack.

The Tr rack has the exact same rom and effect, same capabilities of the keyboard version plus 8 megs of additional sounds from the best of the PBS Tri libraries korg released. It's like you get a PBS Tri built in with the best sounds korg released for it and double the storage. Nice to have those sounds built into rom.

The Tr Rack also has double the storage of the keyboard version(4 banks of 128 combis a 4 banks of 128 for the progs) The Tr Rack samples are the same up to multisamples 374 and drum samples 258. Hence, why they called it expanded access module.

I have checked and the rom samples for the tr rack and the trinity are the same until the new numbers start. The new multisamples start at 375 and 259.

Tr rack 8mb addition sounds from korgs wave libraries:

there are 39 more Multisample and 200 more Drum samples

... so if your TR-Rack patches use the above multi/drumsamples, they will sound different when imported into your Trinity.

The second thing I can think of is that Kevin Goodman's program Trinitro might be a better way of creating libraries and for importing/exporting patches between Trinity models. Trinitro can be downloaded for free here:

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18508

Trinitro can also load and save data to standard PCG format.

Timo:

The question points to the opposite: load into the rack the keyboard sounds.

I haven't a tr-rack (of course that i want one of it for me), so i can't help so much.

But, pointing to the answer of Timo, if you want to load the rack sounds into the keyboard, then if the patch use a flash rom multisample, then the keyboard will sound like birds on those patches.

The error that show the rack is for midi transmission.

I suspect that you need to use 2 midi cables, since the rack need to confirm the reception. But again, it's an idea, not a fact.

You should be able to dump the Keyboard sounds directly into the Rack,I've done this many times, You have to set the Global midi channels to the same number and enabled Sys ex reception on the rack and the Keyboard.
(Trinity Midi out >Rack Midi in),You don't need to connect the Rack out to Trinity Midi in,as sys ex handshaking is not needed in this situation for simple dumping of patches

There should be no problems with dumping rack sounds back to the Keyboard either, after all the PCG data is still the same its the PCM samples that are different,so any sounds using those Extra PCM sounds on the Rack will not sound on the keyboard, due to the PCM data not being present,You also have to remember that the Rack has more banks of sounds than the Keyboard model(Unless you have the PBS board fitted)but this shouldn't reallt present any problems,Although I had the PBS board fitted so my Sys ex data was saved as 4 banks like the Rack, but would have thought the standard 2 banks in the Trinity should dump fine into a TR rack

You can also remotely control most of the editing parameters on the Rack by using the keyboard parameters in realtime,(so long as the Global channels match and the sys ex trx/rcx options are on,(You may want to connect the Midi out of the rack to the Midi in on the keyboard in this instance for Handshaking purposes)

I wish I kept my Trinity Keyboard for this as the Rack is a little bit like painting your house through the letterbox trying to Edit in such a meany LCD screen

I saved much of my Trinity Keyboard data as system exclusive on my Triton Extreme, and then dumped them directly from the Triton into the TR Rack again with no problems,I would suspect the problems your experiencing are from not setting up the Midi/Sys ex menus corretly for transmission or you may want to double check your Midi cable as well

All of your suggestions were already applied without any positive feedback from the Rack... I thing the solution will be to "deliver" the Rack to the service asking them to "make the job done"...

If anyone has a more "concrete" idea, concerning the "exact" procedure it would be always welcome...

Thanks in advance!

Just out of interest why are you creating a system exclusive dump from the Keyboard into the Computer to transmit back into the Rack!!! Question if you have both the rack and the keyboard in your studio connect them together and forget the computer,No wonder your having issues??if your doing this because of the way in which your midi setup is wired up(Trinity kb as master, run thru PC,with rack slaved),you can always connect then back up again afterwards

the problem must be some kind of receiving error in your software, then when you dump the file back to the rack its not getting all of the correct Code!

So forget the PC and connect the Keyboard and Rack directly

Connect a midi cable from the Midi out of the K/B,and connect it to the Midi in on the Rack(you can connect the Midi out of hte rack to Midi in on the k/b if you want but its not essential)

Go to the Global menus in both devices and set both Midi channels to 1,also enable Sys exc transmission/Receive to on on both the Rack and Trinity

The go to Global menu in the Trinity and use the Pull down menu and select "Dump Program" or whatever the menu options are,

Then transmit the data from the Keyboard into the Rack...(you should be able to switch a program on the Keyboard in realtime with it connected like this and the Rack will receive that programs parameters,so you should see this straight away.Once the dump has executed you should see the Programs/Combi names on the rack

I've done this many times with my Trinity>>TR rack and also Triton Classic/Extreme>>rack,so I know it works fine, you obviously don't have the devices connected in the correct way or have the Midi side of things set up correctly

I am not the owner of the keyboard...that's why I want to copy the sounds from it...

And as I said I have tried all of those things...(direct connections)

I thing I will try now to dump the data separately... First the programs only, then the combis only etc...

Have you tried using Trinitro? All you have to do, is hook up the Trinity to the PC using trinitro, then send everything on the Trinity to the PC, save it as pcg or data as you wish, then hook up the T Rack with trinitro and resend it back on to the t rack. That should work. If it doesnt work, then you must have some sort of protection enabled somewhere. Most likely on the rack. Either make sure they are transmitting on the same global midi channel, and make sure you have enabled receive dump or something like that.
