All of Korg's VAs, including the AL-1, only have 2 oscillators. Why? Would it kill them to add a third?
Oh, I'm sure it can sound amazing, and Mike Conway's videos have sold me already, but still... I'm used to having 1 oscillator at -12 semitones, one at 0, and one at +12, and then detuning the two higher ones slightly. It sounds awesome. But you can't really do that with 2. Unless I missed that there are sub-oscillators.
Anyway, I'm liking what i'm hearing though, i'll just have to come up with new programming habits. _________________ DX7 w/ E!, TX81Z, Micron, AN1X, Waldorf Blofeld, Alesis QSR, Proteus /2, Poly-800, Poly-61, Ensoniq Mirage. |

Up to 32 oscillators on a Kurzweil... 64, if you mix a VA oscillator and a keymap. |

AL-1 absolutely does have a sub oscillator... And remember that in a single Program, you can have two EXi engines at the same time, which doubles your oscillator count. Then, you get into Combis, and it multiplies again.

Okay, nice! Sounds awesome. Yeah, I was surprised by what I heard from Mike Conway's videos. I especially like patches like the Woodbox Bass patch or Stack Bass patch or Two ClassicBasses. Does the Kronos have any built in chorus effects that could come close to the old Juno choruses (i'm talking about the actual original Juno series, not the lame new ones)?
Korg should do a synthpop demo of the Kronos. Erasure/Depeche Mode style.
I really like what I heard from the MOD-7 engine. I could finally pack up my DX-7 (it's ram battery died before I even got it haha, probably long before I was even born). _________________ DX7 w/ E!, TX81Z, Micron, AN1X, Waldorf Blofeld, Alesis QSR, Proteus /2, Poly-800, Poly-61, Ensoniq Mirage. |

I'm not familiar with the AL-1 engine very much, but are you able to set up a modulation between individual oscillators between 2 engines?
For example, can you set up an LFO w/ S&H to modulate individual oscillator elements across 2 engines (like waveshape)? Or would you have to set up an LFO for each engine and sync them?
Other than the MS2000B, I'm fairly unfamiliar with most of Korg's VA stuff. The VA engine inside the Alesis Fusion is super flexible/routable (almost like a modular synth), so I've been kind of spoiled by the flexibility of it. _________________ ::: Korg Kronos 88 ::: Alesis Fusion 8HD ::: Kurzweil PC361 ::: Roland V-Synth ::: DSI Prophet 12 ::: DSI OB-6 ::: Korg Prophecy ::: Moog Micromoog ::: Yamaha CP-30 ::: Alesis Andromeda ::: Moog Sub37 ::: Sequential Prophet 600 ::: Korg MS2000BR ::: GSI Burn :::

Ooh! Good point! Yeah, I'd like to know too. _________________ DX7 w/ E!, TX81Z, Micron, AN1X, Waldorf Blofeld, Alesis QSR, Proteus /2, Poly-800, Poly-61, Ensoniq Mirage. |

Yes. There's a common LFO (with sample & hold), frequency modulation, and a common step sequencer. That step sequencer is loaded with potential... When combined with AMS, it becomes a huge palette of modulation options. _________________ Richard Formidoni |

MOD-7 has 7 oscs (including PCM oscillator). |

come on, JonLord, don't spoil the fun!
The joke of the week is currently taking him to face value, wind him up and see what happens.
Next week we'll revert to checking his inventory and unwinding him
Both way he's a wind-up puppet |
