IF and that's a big IF I decide to purchase the Kronos I'm probably going to go with the 61 key version, although I really HATE compromising, but the fact that the 73 and 88 are heavy boards, especially if you add a case for the 73 and 88 you're now upwards to 70 lbs. Wayyy too much for an old weekend warior. Anybody know of a good 88 keyboard controller, lightweight, no wall wart, to trigger the Kronos? 61 keys just won't cut the mustard for any piano work. Although my M3-73 seems perfect for what I'm doing, I keep hearing there's a HUGE difference in sound quality. I know you can't trust youtubes on sound quality, but I personally don't hear that much of a difference in sound quality between the M3 and Kronos so far. Thanks

There IS a huge difference in sound quality. Kronos sounds like OASYS - it has the same high-end converters that OASYS has, and M3 doesn't have those. Also, the sample pool is much larger.

That being said, you might want to check out Studiologic controllers.

How about a case with wheels? Carrying two keyboards (a 61-key + 88-key controller) would seem to me more difficult than a single keyboard. Also, you will have a harder time trying to use the controller keyboard to control Kronos sounds than you would with just the Kronos.

The 73 key model is really designed for you -- i.e. still a piano action keyboard but lighter and shorter for gigging. Note the Kronos 73 is only SIX pounds heavier than your M3-73.

KRONOS
61-key: 27.56 lbs. / 12.5 kg
73-key: 44.75 lbs. / 20.3 kg
88-key: 50.71 lbs. / 23.0 kg

M3
M3-61: 31.08 lbs (14.1 kg)
M3-73: 38.14 lbs (17.3 kg)
M3-88: 58.42 lbs (26.5 kg)
