Here's my contribution-
1980- Gem Wizard 320 organ
1984- Kawai DX800 organ
1987- JVC KB800 'stereo' keyboard
1989- Kawai K5000 organ (NOT K5000 synth that came out later- this was their top of the range console organ).
1991- Korg T3EX synth/workstation (I still have this 20 years on and will never sell it).
1993- Korg DDM110 drum machine.
1994- Wertheim upright piano (a beautifully resored 85 note 'cottage' piano made in Melbourne, Australia in 1934). It was a beautiful instrument and no doubt still is if it's being lovingly cared for!
1995- Roland DR660 drum machine.
1996- Alesis S4+ rackmount synth.
1996- Roland U220 synth module
1996- Korg Wavestation SR synth module.
1997- Korg DW8000 synth (I always wanted one of these and got it cheaply from the Trading Post).
1997- Korg Trinity Plus
1997- Roland JV1080 with an assortment of expansion boards.
1997- Roland MDC 1 'dance' expansion module.
1998- Sold Wertheim piano for Pruthner 131CM upright piano.
1998- Korg Z1 with 18 voice expansion.
1998- Roland JV1080 with an assortmant of expansion boards (I thought of thrading my 1st JV in for a JV2080 but decided on getting a 2nd 1080 for more polyphony).
1998- Kawai K5000S additive synth (no NOT the organ LOL!).
1998- Yamaha O3D mixer with ADAT card (one of the best purchases I ever made along with the Mac set up in 2001 and the Triton in 1999).
1999- Sold K5000S, S4+, U220, DR660, DDM110, KB800, Trinity Plus to fund the purchase of Korg Triton with PCM1/2 boards, SCSI, MOSS & 64MB sample RAM.
1999- MOTU Midi express (non USB) interface.
2000- Roland XV3080 with SRX studio & dance expansion boards.
2000- Sold Korg DW8000 for a hansome profit (but regret selling it now!).
2001- Mac G4 466 with Digi 001, Mindprint Envoice with Digital I/O, assortmant of microphones amongst other things to start the studio.
2001- Zupan Jubeleum 4 row diatonic button accordion (I'll never sell this beautiful instrument!).
2002- Sold Pruthner piano for a beautiful used Yamaha U3M 131CM upright piano.
2004- sold both JV1080s with expansion boards as was going software based with Logic 7, Sampletank, Sonic Synth amongst other purchases at the time.
2006- Korg Legacy Collection. (This made me realise that I can get the sounds of my hardware in a computer and thus, Ebay became my best friend at the time!).
2006- Sold Yamaha O3D mixer.
2006- Traded Digi 001 for Digi 002.
2007- Sold Triton with expansions, XV3080 with expansions, Z1.
2007- Purchased 20" Imac and Logic Studio 8 plus a heap of 3rd party plug ins!.
2007- Novation SL61 midi keyboard controller.
2007- Joe Meek Twin Q mic pre.
2009- Updated to 24" Imac and Logic Studio 9 plus a heap more 3rd party plug ins as well as continuing to Use Protools LE8.
2009- Downgraded(!) from 002 to M Box 2 Pro as I didn't need all the extra bells and whistles.
2010- Kurzweil PC361 (61 note version of PC3). Purchased mainly for use for gigs. A fantastic and powerful instrument let down by a crappy 1990s LCD screen. However, it's capabilities more than make up for this major deficiency!
2011- Gem PRP800 stage piano! A highly underrated instrument that I purchased at a very low price because they weren't selling! It's a perfect compliment to the Kurzweil at gigs where I need a 'weighted action' keybed.
2011 future- I'm quite happy with my studio at the moment although I've already hinted to my very understanding wife that the computer will have to be updated next year and I might even look at the option of moving some of my much loved gear to get a Kronos 73???? However, I think I'll wait until the V2 or 'Xpanded' version comes out with the M3 sequencer features.
2012- Hopefully it won't be the end of the world as we know it!
I must say that I'll most certainly be looking at purchasing the ULTIMATE in music technology as soon as I can afford it..... a lovely grand piano!
PS- I also made plenty of other purchases and sales that don't come to mind here and lets not forget the thousands of $$$$ spent on cables, stands and other essential accessories! _________________ MIDITEK MUSIC PRODUCTION RECORDING & TUITION- albums, demos, jingles. Let's see if I can remember back that far...
Hammond L100 (learned on this one)
Electro Harmonix Mini Synth (membrane keyboard!)
Sound City Piano. (sound shitty we called it)Horrible.
Rhodes Mark 2 Stage piano -sold
Casio 1000p- sold
Roland Juno 106 (recently sold this, had it since '85 or so)
Roland JX10 (still have it, bought it brand new in '86 or so)
Emu Proteus/1- died after about 10 yrs, threw it away
Rhodes VK1000- gave to a friend after I got the VK7 and P50
Roland JV880 module- sold
Alesis S4+ module- sold
Alesis DM5 drum module - still have this
Roland VK7 organ- sold when I got the Electro
Yamaha P50 digital piano- sold when I got the Electro
Nord Electro 73- part of current live rig
Nord Lead 2- recently sold
Studiologic SL880 controller-sold
Yamaha S90ES- part of current live rig
Emu MK6 (picked up used for 300 bucks, loaded with add on ROM cards, used it live for a while, now it's my practice keyboard)
I've owned various Leslies and Motion Sound products over the years, and also hauled around a B3 that belonged to the guitar player who I was playing with at the time.
I'm in the process of buying a used Nord Stage Compact. I elected for this over the Kronos for now, it will serve some immediate needs and replace my aging Electro, which I've had for 10 years (even though it works perfect, I want the layering and synth capability of the Stage).
My next item to save for will be a Kronos 76 note model, but it'll be a year or 2 before I'm ready to purchase, and who knows what else might be out by then. |

FINALLY!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Geez, the rest of you guys!
And then you go on and complain about shipping delays, missing features, prices?
You better be composing and playing some AWESOME music with all that hardware laying around!
I've been playing for 20 years now and have had only 4 keyboards, only one at a time. Last one is my M3.
Cheers,
Juan Miguel |

I think we're all just looking for that one synth that has it all... because let's face it every keyboard has its shortcomings. I've had several units, but i can't stand to have gear lying around unused. At this moment have two keyboard workstations so i have one at home and one at work. My biggest problem is what to do when i get a Kronos and have three. _________________ Korg Kronos-61, 01/Wfd, SONAR Pro |

Juan,
Most of my keyboards just fall apart after a while from gigging! Sending as luggage takes a toll and constant gigging will run them down.
Most of the upgrades were due to trying to get a better sound.

First I thought it was a useless topic. Then I realized maybe we are the last generation using mainly hardware. (I hope not.) There are very interesting and impressive lists here, no doubt. From musical point of view it still doesn't matter that much. Owning an instrument is one thing, playing it well is another - but the first certainly helps. Finally, there are world-class musicians with only one Steinway or a Hammond B3 on their list.
Keyboards used since I was 5 (1974):
* = owned
* J. Ernst. Berlin upright
Bösendorfer piano
harpsichord
celesta
* Casio VL-1
* Casio PT-20
* Yamaha PS-25
Yamaha Electone organ
* Korg Poly-800
Steinway piano
Fender Rhodes
Yamaha DX 7
Yamaha DX 21
Yamaha DX 100
* Roland D-20
* Roland JV-30
* Ensoniq ASR-10
Korg Triton LE 61
Korg Pa1X Pro
* Korg Triton LE88
* Korg KARMA
* Yamaha S08
* E-MU PK-6
* E-MU Xtreme Lead-1
* E-MU Proteus 2500
* Korg OASYS 88
* Korg nanoSERIES controllers
* Korg SV-1 73
* Ensoniq MR61
* Korg KingKORG
* Korg MS-20 mini
* Moog Theremini
* DSI OB-6
* Korg Kronos 73
Additionally, experience with many other instruments and gear, owning some of them: vibraphone, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, timpani, snare drum, several bigger and smaller percussion, drumset, hardware sequencers, drum machines, hurdy-gurdy, double-bass, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, angklung, tin whistle, dual-recorder, jaw-harp, software instruments and DAWs, Korg Electribe MX, MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad.
PS. I still would like to have some other instruments, too. But most importantly I would like to have more time to play them creatively. _________________ AkosJanca.com | Facebook | YouTube | SoundCloud | FuturePlant || OASYS-demos | nanoROCK demo | Korg Band in the Garage demo | Kronos Demo 1 | Kronos Demo 2
