Had my mini for about a month and here are my first impressions.
As expected the speaker is very weak and has no bass. However through headphones or amp it is fantastic.
Being the small brother wavedrum the response is limited. For example I play the djembe that has 3 base sounds where the mini only provides 2 (no slap).
But for some of the instruments that normally have many sounds the synth is brilliant enabling me to jam along on an instrument I have never played before if a little limited as expected.
I must say that some of the sounds (instruments) are just great while others are a little cheesy but fun.
I find the leg clip (pickup) great but the lead is too short. Even sitting it gets caught on my knees. - added an extention and its fine
The loop recording is great to build and test rythms. Its a pitty you cant save them for review later
Have now started jaming along to songs and getting used to the subtle touch required
Ultimately this is a bit of a toy... but what a toy.
I am going to have many hours of fun and annoying the family. (they were so impressed at my new found skills and I couldn’t tell them it was all the wavedrum).
Can't wait to get home again for some more play and save up for the big brother wavedrum.
It will always have a place in my arsenal to provide additional back up sounds as well without having to result to full canned drums.
A definate keeper.

has somebody already connected a foot kick trigger to the MINI ?
something similar to this :

the manual says " Do not connect anything other than the
included clip to the CLIP jack."

but with a volume pedal in between?

instead of finding a way to connect the kick pedal trigger, why not just clip the clip sensor to a part of the pedal that is out of the beater's way. The vibrations sent through the pedal should be enough to trigger the mini, no?

it does also work this way ,
but you get a better bang when the beater hits the trigger directly.
and it is the more professional and more solid solution .
In both ways you can use the whole pedal
as a "music instrument" that triggers the WD.
this effect is working the most interesting way with triggered ALGos
so I am not shure how the mainly PCM dominated sounds of the MINI
will react...
the Mini seems to produce its sounds a bit different than the silver

I thought there was some DSP going on in the mini since the manual mentions in the troubleshooting section that different units could sound different and compares the mini somewhat to an acoustic instrument- which will vary unit to unit.

I guess they were referring to different pickup of stoke tones and not to some additional synthesis of strike? Note: see update post below

As for the kick trigger input being best sent direct- agreed for live use. But for a quiet environment like a home studio I would be curious to test the difference.

Update: There is some sort of analogue goodness going on bc when I attach the clip to my guitar headstock with sound #37 and other percussion I actually hear the guitar coming through the speakers and on loop playback too- the actual tones of the strings and sometimes the string noise too. If I scratch the gum pad on the unit best I can I do hear the scratch noise come through. I would like to coat the head in something to make scratch noise more apparent. Ideas?

So perhaps that reviewer you quoted is wrong on some level? There is at least some level of analogue wave processing. It is the Wavedrum after all.

for real results
one needs to have both of them ,
put 3 volume-levels of the silver to 0 ... and compare...
is that ALGo sound ...?

Is your guitar acoustic , semi acoustic or fullbody ?
what you hear is kind of microfone sound of your guitars vibrations
transmitted through the wood (not too loud / little preamp ?)
On the silver you still hear this signal when you put all 4 vol to zero
this signal can easyly trigger a pcm , a fingersnap can do that,
but shure not all ALGos

fingertapping on the guitar body can do better...
