New Order is currently using it live. The drummer (Stephen Morris) has it set up next to his drum kit and plays it on certain songs. Here's a full concert from Berlin: http://youtu.be/0Bu1fkgUM7s

Cool, New Order were one of my fav bands when they first came out, Gee must be over 30 years now. Smile
Wish I had the bandwidth/speed to see the concert. Sad

I'm thinking about getting the MicroSampler but not sure if it will do what I want it to do.

I'm in a band that plays mostly progressive rock and it would be cool to have something that can play sampled noises during songs. For example, Rush's song Red Barchetta has a car screech sound in the middle. Also, not sure if anyone is familiar with Porcupine Tree, but the song Halo has a rhythmic scratching sound throughout the song. I'd like to have a loop that can do this.

Would the microsampler do this or does anyone recommend something else?

The MS will do that stuff so easily, and so much more to boot. Wink
You will have to practice keeping the band and the MS in time when you do the looping stuff though, but shouldn't be to hard.

I use it live in my band along with the R3 and M50.

Sampled a few of my old softsynths (I used to play pure software) that I couldn't ever get quite right on my other keyboards. It's not really very great for that kind of stuff since it has no portamento/filters and the effects are pretty limited, but with some tweaking I did manage to get a fairly faithful recreation of some hard to recreate softsynth sounds.

It's great for triggering normal samples though - for example, we have an intro narration, and some of our songs have voice/other sound effects. Also use it to play sampled crowd cheering/booing/etc just to be funny on dead nights.

I don't really even touch the thing at shows - it pretty much acts like a module, with my M50 controlling it. I'm not even coming close to using it to its full potential, but as far as a cheap addon sampler just to get me by until I can afford a Kronos, it has done its job well Smile
