Hello:
thanx for all the help
I'm looking at the Motu Microlite https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/microlite
and the manual for said device
https://s3.amazonaws.com/motu-www-data/manuals/midi/MOTU_USB_MIDI_Interface_User_Guide.pdf
and being a novice I cant figure out whether this will serve my purpose. The manual is confusing as it covers several different motu devices and I can’t figure which is which.
Heres what I want be able to do:
Have connectivity between these devices
1. Korg Pa 600
2. TC Helicon VK https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PerformVK
A harmonizer controlled by midi
3.Boss RC 202 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RC202
A looper, just need clock sync
4. the softstep 2 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SoftStep2
thought I might be able to eliminate the midi expander using the Motu
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MIDIExpand
but I I don’t think so.
I’m wondering if the Microlite can hook these all up for live performance not using a computer (except to program if necessary)
I’m hoping the microlite will work as I’m trying to avoid the bulk of the other motu devices.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanx Much!!

Motu Midi Micro Lite has no power supply, is taking power from USB Bus, means you still need connect to computer or (not sure) try use USB power.
Also Micro Lite has no access to customize Midi ports, is all megre.
In reality you find out in order to work correctly Midi network you need use filters to stop some unwanted messages, if you send all Midi commands from all to all is gonna be mess.
For example Korg Pa sending some many messages which can change configuration for others.
Conclusion:
Motu Midi Micro Lite is 5x5 Midi interface, which will works with your setup, but most likely you gonna have some issue, means if you really looking to work with multi Midi devices, I suggest go for at least Motu micro express or Midi Express XT.
I own Motu Midi Express XT and is a live saver for my midi network. Wink

Kinda what I figured, im tryin to avoid the rack mount, but will check out the micro express. I dont need any mess ups because its for live performance. I can power a usb port ok from a tablet I use. Do you think the micro express will work for me?
Thanx again!!

Have you made a flow chart that shows where you need to send stuff?

Where does the pedal go?

You might just need a midi thru box like this:

www.ebay.com/itm/292024401592?

There's a 4 port version of that.

There's a processor that can filter stuff too:

www.ebay.com/itm/182447762389?

Yes, you have to, best way is use before on open all channels use MIDI-OX software and catch all messages is sending by all device, then make your own flow chart and figure out what you need it and what not.

I'm not using, but you can program to send some extra Midi messages.
Available events:
On one channel (your choice) can send:
Note ON
Note OFF
Patch Change
Controllers
Channel Aftertouch
Poly Aftertouch
System Exclusive
Song Position
Song Select
Tune Request
Beat Clock
Start
Continue
Stop

Of course for each got extra parameters necessary.
Then you add to bank and you can send many different messages you want.
means using pedal you can reconfigure entire setup just only by simple pressing once. Wink

I been there, done this,... believe me, this all cheap boxes is crap for serious aplication,... you want to enjoy your midi network, you need to buy right stuff. Wink
Is not the same filter what you need it.
Motu giving you on each cable In and Out special filters for muting:
Notes
Mono Touch
Poly Touch
Pitch Bend
Patch Change
Controllers
Song Select
System Reset
Realtime
Tune Request
Active Sensing
System Exclusive
MIDI Time Code

... this MIDI Solutions Thru 2 Output MIDI Thru Box won't give you any. Wink
Also Motu can mapping every cable to channel your choice, which can be handy.

P.S. That's only from my experience, I am using special configuration.
Example: Korg every time you change style or even STS is sending on each channels Patch number, volume, pan, attack , decay, sustain, release levels and more, is not enough filters on Korg (only 8 filters) to filter all but leave notes, which I using to control my Ultranova Appreciator from Pad.
without MOTU is no way I can send clock and notes only.
Like I said before, on very beginning simple midi merge boxes is works, but later you gonna stand before problem which you cannot avoid, is better invest in good equipment or later you gonna have full boxes of cheap useless boxes. Laughing

I think I'm goin with the Motu Micro Express.. I've been lookin at the Flow Chart template in the Express Manual and think I understand it ok. Once I get it filled out I'll post and see if you guys think I've got the Idea. I think the software that comes with the express should work? Nemik mentions midi ox?
The Softstep pedal at this time I use for PCs on the korg.. variations, endings etc.
I may use it for more as I figure this stuff out : )
thanx again!

MIDI-OX is free PC software which allow you to track what Midi messages is transmitting from devices.
Is very helpful when you dealing with MIDI Network. Wink
Perfect for troubleshooting.
