Hi Purchased Korg ex T3 at auction,. Brought it home and tried to upload factory sounds with disk I bought on line. Followed youtube protocol and got "Date error". tried the tape the square hole trick I read about with same result.
I really am not a tech and actually a guitar player to boot but I spent $400 on this so I'm in too deep to back away,..so far. So I just bought a replacement drive and am waiting for that. I hear they just snap in so i'll try that.
Any help would be appreciated tremendously.
Thanks,
Mike

HD (High Density) 3.5" disks are used in the T-series. There should be two square holes in those disks - one is for write protection, which occurs when the hole is not covered by the movable tab. The other square hole is for identification of HD disks - there's no point in covering it on a T3.

Getting a "Data Error" doesn't necessarily indicate a problem with the disk drive. It can be caused by corrupted data, a bad disk, or even just dirty heads.

You may find that replacing the disk drive requires somewhat more effort than just snapping it in.

I suggest that you get some unused 3.5" HD disks, and see if you can successfully format them on the T3. If so, the disk drive is probably OK. If not, the problem might still just be dirty heads.

Thanks for the reply.
I put in the new drive, then got message about the drive not working. Oh boy, I'm going down a rabbit hole here.
I will try your suggestion.
Thanks again.
Mike

Have you considered just using a MIDI interface from a computer and downloading the factory sounds via SYSEX datadump?

If so, I have the prefect program to handle that.....
