I have a new iPad (2017 model is 5th gen and is simply called iPad). I am trying to connect my Korg Pa600 to it. Initially checking things out with Garage Band.

I am connecting via lightning connector that came with it. One end is ligntning and the other end is USB Male tip. This cable works fine for charging as well as for transferring photos/data from iPad to my windows 10 PC.

I am also using a female-female USB adapter so I can connect the USB cable from Korg with the lightning cable.

iPad does not see my keyboard. I think the lightning cable does not add a USB port to iPad for USB midi function. I am going to apple store to check and assume I would need to buy a lightning to USB camera adapter kit.

Wondering whether any one here has successfully connected PA 600 to iPad (any model).

Thanks in advance Sri.

P.S. I did a search before posting this - and there were no results for "ipad pa600" and was surprised.

I had to get a lightning to Camera USB connector ($29 in apple store). Only with that connector my Korg PA 600 by some of the music apps (Geoshred mainly). I cannot get Garage Band to see my Keyboard yet. Working on that,

So bottom line, the standard lightning charging cable, which has a USB male tip will not work for connecting MIDI keyboards.

Hope this is useful - though I am not able to say anything yet about other iPad apps recognizing PA 600 (even Korg's Gadget Le - a free app does not recognize PA 600).

Geoshred+iPad provides tremendous express-ability for playing continuous and micro tonal Indian music.

As expected with the basic connectivity out of the way I now have a stack of other issues. But I guess that is progress.

Thanks for any one who might be on the verge of posting some tips in response to my original note.

br Sri.

So you're wanting to use your pa600 as a midi input device for your ipad?

Might try some of these things:

tacman7 gave you perfect answer. Wink
Pa600 USB type A (host) is only for storage devices.
to use iPad or other tablets you need connect to Midi ports, which required special adaptors.
Other USB type B (Device) can be use with driver on PC or Mac.

Sort of related, but how would I go about recording a live show into my iPad? I'd like to come out of my Bose ToneMatch unit into the iPad so that I can record video with proper well-balanced sound. Would welcome any advice on this. Thanks in advance.

Is it Korg forum here, you need to ask on Bose Tone Match forum. Wink

I wouldn't say Giner's question is a Tone Match Bose specific question. It wouldn't matter what it is really. Regardless of what mixing/summing box you're using, you would still need something like this:

You right Sam. Wink
is more like recording sync audio from external audio source on iPad. Wink
Best way is to record separate it audio and video, then sync using Video editor.
I don't know iPad app to do this, but is plenty software to do this on PC or Mac.

yeah, I would also record the two separately, but some people don't want to bother taking the extra step. I've never worked with those video apps on iPad myself so not sure how good they are.
