Im looking at getting a keyboard in the next 2 months and just looking at what my options are. I really love the look and the simplicity of the controls of the Korg sv 1 but i'm just hesitant on it due to the fact that some reviews i have read have said that the acoustic piano sounds are not that great. I would be using it mostly for the acoustic piano (but would also like to use the rhodes) so how would it compare to a roland rd 800 or something similar? Lastly, is the korg sv 1 getting outdated as it has been around for such a long time?

ps. this would be for home use not for gigs.

Test the keybeds on each instrument. In my experience, the SV-1 feels great for EP’s, not as good for pianos. The RD-800 is number one for me for piano feel and realism. I could not get on with the Nord hammer action, just felt too disconnected. There is the Korg GrandStage too, previously shown at Winter NAMM, but now released.

I use an SV-1 and find the AP's more than acceptable in a live performance setting, but I'm not going to say it's better or worse than some of those other keyboards which I've not tried. I also really like the RH3 action, but actions are very much a matter of personal taste.

I agree with xp50 - the Grandstage just came out so if you're considering a stage piano you should probably factor that in to your calculations somewhere.

Hello, few examples I recommend, including acoustic piano sounds.

Additionally, as there are many different real acoustic pianos, there are many different sounds, too - and all good. Or bad, depending on the situation. And it also depends on the imitating instrument's other properties, for example, keyboard mechanics, responsiveness, dynamics - which only you can feel for yourself. So, I think the correct answer is that all the instruments/brands you listed are good (= good enough to imitate a real acoustic piano on a certain level which is high enough for general and comfortable live/studio use in many genres, but none of them are close to a real acoustic piano in all details anyway) but you have to try these great instruments personally to find the best one for yourself.
