I've had Live for many many years and have used some ready made Racks straight off their Browser.

Just lately I've started to realize the potential of these Racks.

Almost beyond belief.

You can insert a rack with another rack for example. And each can contain many Chains of VSTs or FX etc

Program changes can be made by various means so that a single Track in Live can contain a massive list of instruments ready to switch on with a clip perhaps. That is something I needed to do often as I usually end up with several ideas using patch changes in projects. This way I can store all the patches with a single rack.

If you have Live and do not exploit Racks perhaps its time to take a look at what those can achieve.

Unfortunately there are some limitations when you want to trigger a different patch in a rack by way of scene change. You basically have to leave all instruments on and use the chain selector (meaning any noise fx like leslie or drawbar leakage will be on when you have your piano selected, not your organ). This prevents me from using it as a true substitute for Cantabile or Forte.

Its also not very friendly when assigning keyboard controller (wheels/sliders/pedals etc) to only certain parts..

Thats where a specific keyboard host like mainstage shines
