Hi,

Yamaha did a similar thing with the launch of the Tyros 5. Little teaser videos beforehand, and when they launched the Tyros 5 at Seacroft, you had to get a ticket (which was free) to go into a time designated demonstration. The Yamaha reps even went to the trouble of putting black sheeting over the windows so people could not see in. All cloak and dagger stuff.

I and quite a few other guests at Seacroft found the process quite annoying (verging on childish) the way Yamaha staff were acting that day. After all, it was only an arranger keyboard yet Yamaha were trying to build it up to be something life changing.

However good the Genos turns out to be (and believe me it will be), Yamaha had their backsides well and truly kicked when Korg launched the PA4X.
My justification for that comment is that the PA4X is every bit as good as the Tyros 5 (some people would say better). But more importantly, for a much lower price than the Tyros 5. The PA4X is actually closer in price to the Yamaha PSR-S970 than it is to the Tyros 5.

Chris

I think to prize me away from the PA4X would be tall order...BUT.... if the Montage is a glimpse of what this New Arranger could be when sharing some aspects of DNA and Design Philosophy then who knows ?.... I am enjoying my fusion of Montage and PA4X so with all this in mind then strong competition in any marketplace is always good for the consumer Smile

does not look like an arranger to me?..

Stating "digital workstation" would seem to be more like the successor to the Motif, but with the Montage sound engines...

It is successor of Tyros. Definitely.

Will be interesting to see if they have adopted the "Pure Analog Circuit" from the montage with the Genos as this is one of the aspect of montage that has impressed me from Yamaha.....

Quote: "MONTAGE features professional balanced outputs with “Pure Analog Circuit” (PAC). PAC improves the quality of signal after being converted to analog from digital for clear harmonic reproduction and even frequency response. The result is an output capable of reproducing MONTAGE’s internal content expressively with power and clarity"...........and they are not kidding there.

You'd have to hope Yam have done something with the vocal harmonizer.

Looks a bit like a Tyros in a nice black finish.
Touch screen is a good move.
Looks like they kept and moved the small drawbar sliders too.

The manual will tell us everything I guess.
Can't wait to watch Peter Baartmans demos

There are no buttons for styles and tones/sounds selection.

Hi Friends:

I'm surprised that several korg users looks for what is been doing Yamaha to compite with Korg.-
My concern goes for what will become from next Korg, specially on sound engines, better samples, or upgraded software.-
I've been using Korg since 2002 and it's producter never dissapoint me.-
For Korg allways was innovation, high technology, and reliability.- On stage a keyboard must be reliability, and Korg keyboard goes to 100% on that.-
Since my first Triton to my Kronos 2, i've never never been dissapointed.-
Just take a look what hardware are used by the best keyboardist ever: KORG
The reason is simple, they sound excellent and they are reliability.-
That enough for me.-
With regards.
Eduardo

Competition is definitely a healthy manner of our interest !!!
This brings us the choice to select the better product for our needs in the best price !
For me the case is clear , I purchase and develop Korg products since they are the most featured in market that money can buy !
When this will change , then I will definately follow the new leader ... its a pure choice for not biased users/Musicians !
